I'm in town for the weekend, and though I can't see anything else Friday or Sunday (Hair and Next To Normal on Friday, In the Next room and Mamma Mia on Sunday), I have an opening for a Saturday matinee. My question is, since I unfortunately won't be back in the city until late January, what could/ should I see? I'm leaning towards Ragtime, though I've already seen it (and loved it to pieces). If you think Ragtime will close by January then by all means I'll see that (Better seeing it three times now than regretting it latter). If not, I had some other ideas:
Fela (Could this close by January?)
Finian's Rainbow (Same...)
Mary Poppins (Only for Laura Michelle Kelly)
Shrek (Just to see Ben, and before it's closed, if he's that good)
Everything else I've either seen or just not interested in. My question, what do you think I could and should see on Saturday if i'm buying the tickets day of (I honestly can't afford it any other way)?
I don't know how viable anything is going to be for day-of tickets on Saturday...most of the theaters will be packed. No one can really say whether shows are going to be closed by January but out of the ones you've mentioned that you haven't seen I'd recommend Finian's Rainbow and Mary Poppins, LMK is phenomenal and the whole production of Finian's is stellar.

I'd recommend Finian's... and skip on Mary Poppins.

Are any of the shows above (minus Shrek, since it already is) in the realm of possibly closing by February? If so, I'd rather see that show...
Ragtime, Fela, and Finian could all conceivably be closed by February.

Don't bother seeing Fela! It's not worth your limited time. Ragtime is phenomenal, but if you've already seen it I would definitely recommend Finian's Rainbow. It's a stellar production and Kate Baldwin is simply sublime in it. Not to be missed.
I'm seeing Ragtime this Saturday!
I hope it's as great as everyone says it is!
