"If you have been reading the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE message/chat board lately (just click on the CABARET CHAT button at the top of all pages on the website), you will have read about a rather disgusting e-mail that was being sent around to cabaret performers and fans in the NYC area (and beyond, I suppose). The e-mail was so poisonous that when another cabaret writer sent me a copy he had received (for some reason I was not sent one), I deleted it after reading just the first paragraph or two.
Even more disgusting was the fact the the target of the slimy tasteless letter was someone who has tirelessly worked to point out the shortcomings, failures and frequent blunders of the MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) Board of Directors. She has been personally attacked for her views often, not just on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE chat board, but on other chat and message boards as well. But this was far beyond anything written before. Former MAC Board member Sue Matsuki (who, among other cabaret and piano bar performers, was described in the e-mail as a participant in a sado-sex orgy directed at the female MAC critic) was so disgusted with the e-mail, she posted an angry message of her own on the chat board, and began to try to track down the writer (who chose to be anonymous, naturally). In spite of her best efforts, and over a dozen reports from readers as to who the writer actually was, all she was met with was denials. Funny that someone thought they were so clever when the wrote the garbage will now disavow any connection to it!
Even more disgusting, however, is the fact that several folks posted messages on the HOTLINE board and other message boards, including a MAC Board Member (who also had the audacity to try to include me in the attack by falsely claiming I had forbidden the MAC critic from posting on the HOTLINE CHAT BOARD!) attempting to justify the e-mail, as though the target deserved it! Others tried to claim that it was just a parody, and should not have been taken seriously. There is something seriously wrong in the NYC cabaret community! This type of activity was unheard of in the past. And instead of taking a firm stand against character assassination, anonymous e-mails and downright dirty tricks, leaders in the NYC cabaret community (with one exception, Richard Skipper, whose name also appeared in the venomous e-mail) and their surrogates, appear to be in support of this type of action. Something has to change! More on this next issue."
