Posted: 6/18/06 at 1:47amI'm going to NYC in December and I'm debating whether or not to see this. I only have so much time and I'm not sure I'm going to like it, though I heard Christine Ebersole gives an amazing performance. I figured the show isn't really all that popular, it's moreso Ebersole's performance that has been receiving all the praise, so I wasnt' sure if the show would tour if it turned out to be a fairly decent hit.

Posted: 6/18/06 at 2:14amSee the film first! If you like it, you will LOVE the musical. I don't want to talk it up too much, because it IS a documentary from the 1970's, and it DOES have its slow moments... and it is my solemn belief that if someone talks it up too much, one might not appreciate it as fully as they might if they discover it without too much forethought. I think that you should know where this musical is coming from before seeing it. I was introduced to GREY GARDENS a few years ago and I had heard virtually NOTHING about it beforehand. I laughed at and cried with the characters and found the journey wonderful. The truth is, Christine Ebersole CHANNELS this character fully. Mary Louise Wilson (is that the right three-named Mary?) is fantastic as well... At times I forgot they were even actresses. But like I said, if you appreciate the film, you will appreciate the musical. (A few drinks beforehand won't hurt either.)

Ha, the drinking thing will be a probably because i'm only 20 - unless of course you mean a sip of Aquafina - ha.
I was just wondering if the chances of it touring are high. I know I want to see Les Miz becasue I love Norm Lewis and I love this cast and I've never seen the show. I sort of want to see the Chorus Line revival, but if I don't see it, I wouldn't be heartbroken. I really would like to see High Fidelity because it's a nice light musical comedy.

Posted: 6/18/06 at 12:15pmOh, sorry... I totally forgot to get around to the real answer to the question... The chances of Grey Gardens touring are probably very little. The subject matter is so specific that I don't personally believe it has what it takes to garner a national touring company. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely LOVE the show, but most of America won't know or care about some crazy relatives of Jackie Kennedy living in a dilapidated house in the Hamptons. Unless a lot changes for the Broadway production, I don't see it becoming the next WICKED, HAIRSPRAY, or JERSEY BOYS - shows that will definitely tour for a while. So if you're into it, see it while you can!

Posted: 6/18/06 at 4:17pmYeah, that's sort of what I was thinking. Shows like High Fedility and A Chorus Line revival will probably tour. I love seeing the little shows like Grey Gardens. Do you think listening to the recording first (Since it comes out in July/August) first would be better or would it ruin the "suprises" in the show?

See the movie. Im a huge fan of the movie and then going there and seeing how perfectly they recreated Big Edie and Little Edie was amazing. Plus, youll get the little inside jokes that are peppered within the show, which makes it much funnier. ALso, I would refrain from listening to the recording, just because I love the suprise of going into a show not knowing whats coming, but thats just me.

Posted: 6/18/06 at 4:28pmYeah, I'm trying to find the movie. I'll have to check out Hollywood Video, though not sure they'd have it. I really would like to hear the score from the show just to see if I'd even been entertained by it, but I don't want to know all the songs because it really does ruin the suspense of the show.

Posted: 6/19/06 at 3:28amIt's a hard find. Netflix has it, but I don't know if Hollywood or Blockbuster would keep it in stock. For those who are into it, though, it's definitely worth the $40 ticket price. Although, it's a tough call. I saw it before I ever bought it and I can't say how willing I was to buy it before seeing it at all.... Afterwards, of course! And by the way, Sara Gettelfinger was AMAZING tonight at B'way Bares! Oh. My. God.
