What are the most overrated broadway shows? what shows are the most deserving of their popularity?

If you mean current Broadway shows, and if by overrated, you're referring to their reception from the critics, then certainly the stupid, juvenile Book of Mormon heads the list. Among plays, there are the obnoxious snoozers, Constellations and The River.

But come April, the appalling Fun Home will tower over all and everything in sight.

Overrated:
Wicked,
Cats,
Chicago,
Legally Blonde,
Any juke box musical: Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys etc.

Deserved popularity:
Cabaret,
The Lion King,
Avenue Q,
Hedwig,
Fun Home (when it arrives).

tazber, I think this is a bit of a different topic.

I've already said my overrated, but I think in terms of deserving of their popularity, most long-running shows before 1970, Wicked, and Chicago.
