i absolutely love ruthie. she is exceptionally talented with the most adaptable voice ever. her performances in putting it together, west end's chicago, FOSSE and peggy sue are great.
i think she's da british bomb.
p.s. what about ute lempur?????????????????????????????????/
She is totally one of my favorites!
To be able to play Amalia in She Loves Me and Roxie in Chicago I think illustrates the breadth of her talent. Hope she returns to New York in something soon (and something that utilizes her better than Putting it Together).

Wow that brings me back a quite a few years....i saw both of them (Ruthie an Ute) in "Chicago" well over 8 years ago! I remember waiting to meet them both at the stage door (i must have been around 10 or 11) and them both coming out and being the sweetest women i'd ever encountered.
Loved her live in Putting It Together. Must have been a ballet dancer with those legs.

I saw both of them in Chicago years ago. Referring to Ruthie as that "young British star" made me smile.
I don't think she's YOUNG(far from it), but I do think she's GREAT!!
Young? I guess that's a matter of perspective. I do love her, though. I saw her in Putting it Together and Peggy Sue Got Married. She was wonderful in both, though Peggy Sue was not a good show at all. I attended opening night because a friend of mine was in the cast. The show was pretty mediocre with a few of bright spots in the score, but the book was rather charmless.

I saw her as Roxie in CHICAGO - Ute had just left the show. She was brilliant!!! I've seen CHICAGO several times since, but Ruthie is definitely one of the best Roxies ever - even better than Charlotte d'Amboise or Karen Ziemba (but not better than Chita Rivera - who is the best Roxie ever!!!!! )
She has an amazing voice, I love her version of MAYBE THIS TIME from CABARET, which is featured on one of her cd's. And her THE ROSE isn't bad either...
She was a bright point in PIT.... Wish I caught her Roxie...
young?
She was, by far, the best thing in "A Christmas Carol" as Scrooge's mother. Everything in my house stopped while she was on screen.

She is amazing, Id love to see her come back to Broadway in something. I wonder how she would have done as Charity?

Fosseboi, she played Velma in the original 1975 production yes.
She DID however play Roxie in this current REVIVAL at least in Toronto production (and as far as I know - not sure though - in Las Vegas) and in London.
I saw her in the London production and I can definitely say she played R O X I E ! It was about 6 years ago and it was a limited engagement, like two months only. She played Roxie opposite Valarie Pettiford's (orig. B'way cast of FOSSE) Velma.
I saw her twice in London so I do know what I'm talking about.
Unfortunately I've never seen Ruthie live, but I think her voice is just INCREDIBLE !!!
Take care

<--- Heee.
My thoughts on Ruthie Henshall? The woman is practically the epitome of the triple-threat. FANTASTIC actress, singer, and dancer. Hers was the first version of "I Dreamed A Dream" that ever actually made me cry. *nod* I want to be her when I grow up. I wish I could see her live, at some point.
Did anyone catch her as Scrooge's mother in that televised, musical, version of A Christmas Carol (with Kelsey Grammer, Jesse L. Martin, and Jane Krakowski)? I nearly had a heart attack when I saw her. ^^
She's fantastic, and one of the most talented people working today. I read a quote by Mickey Rooney a while back - who worked with her in Crazy For You in London) - where he compared her undeniable talent to Judy Garland.
That's enough for me!
Saw her in Miss Saigon (She was the wife of Chris, totally forgot the name, in the final cast) and absolutely LOVED her. I also loved her in Putting it Together. I love her renditions of "Sooner or Later" and "More". They make Madonna's versions in Dick Tracy, which I didn't much like (her renditions that is, i liked the movie), sound like crap. Oh Ruthie! THE ultimate Triple Threat of our time!
I have loved her voice and acting since I was seven years old. She's wonderful and charismatic and great. I wanted to be her when I was little. Love her.

I saw her with Ute Lemper in CHICAGO at the West End. I remember at the end when they threw roses to the crowd, that both roses landed on me
She was Fantine in the 10th Anniversary LES MISERABLES concert...and also sang and danced on the HEY, MR. PRODUCER tribute to Cameron Mackintosh.
Didn't she play the role of Liza Minnelli in the workshop for THE BOY FROM OZ with Hugh sometime in 2002? I wonder why she didn't get the part later on?

I've always been a big fan of her.
I SAW HER IN PUTTING IT TOGETHER, SHE KINDA REMINDS ME OF PARKER POSEY.
