I really like most recordings, but some I can not bear to listen to. It is most often with a show that have already done, such as Cinderella, and Annie.

Posted: 6/28/05 at 11:47amThe OBCR of Dreamgirls was poorly recorded and seriously abridged. I only listen to Jennifer Holliday's songs on it, and when I want to listen to the show, I put on the concert recording.

MAME.
The show is great, but between the shrieking sopranos, the way-too-loud trumpets and the poor sound mixing, I find the cast album unlistenable.

^^ Funny...I always thought Follies was one of Sondheim's more accessible scores. Hmmm.
Anyway, I'm going to seperate this from shows I dislike, and focus on the recording itself. I love the score of Can-Can, but pretty much can't get through the OBC recording. Too bad there wasn't an Encores recording or some other studio recording.

Posted: 6/28/05 at 1:21pmI dislike the Titanic cast album. Not because of the music but because of the way it was engineered. One moment is will be so soft and you can barely hear it and then the next moment it is blaring and making your ears bleed. My fingers are constantly on the volumn so I don't bother listening to it anymore. They didn't do a very good job at balancing the levels.

The Tyne Daly recording of GYPSY is one os the worse and she was excellent on stage, but on the recording: yugs!!!!

Bat Boy. The only reason I bought it was becuase I had just audition for a part in the show (a part I didn't get) and I had never heard it before. I listened to it once, it bored me and annoyed me and I haven't listened to it since. I've almost given it a chance a number of times, but stopped when I thought of wasting an hour on something I disliked so much.
That's the only cast album I OWN that I don't like. Thankfully I borrowed Spamalot from a friend before going to buy it. After hearing it, I have no desire to plunk down 18 bucks for it. It's just so...blah.

no wonder i hate dreamgirls... the OBC is so bad... i thought it was just the show...
