So help me out guys,

Im currently dramaturg for my college production of Spring Awakening and as part of our attempt to highlight the emotional impact of the show, Id like to hear from all of you on how the show has impacted you as humans/artists. Id especially love to hear from anyone who was exposed to Spring Awakening as a teenager.

All quotes will be kept anonymous, but the plan is to present them to the audience in the lobby before the show starts.

When you first saw/listened to Spring Awakening, how did you respond to the show? What did it mean to you? Was there a particular character you identified with?

This won't help you in your quote collection, but I want to share that I have been cool to SA since I first heard the score and found it off-putting.

But a few months ago, my local, semi-professional theater did a production that was so engrossing, I actually broke a molar in half with my tongue during a very intense scene! Color me a fan of the show (minus one tooth).

I taught Wedekind's straight-play original for a decade-and-a-half because of its influence on German Expressionism. It is among my favorite plays. And now that I've seen the musical, I have to say it does an amazing job of being true to its source while being absolutely relevant to our times.

I now have grandchildren the age of the characters, but I find the story no less moving for that.

It was one of the first musicals I found myself, after being cast in Hairspray, Grease, RENT. I was kinda into punk-pop at the time, and I was so excited that you could do musical theatre that didn't sound like musical theatre.
