I have a question. When they decide that the want to hire a celeb for a broadway show, say Usher, or that American Idol guy in The Wedding Singer, how do they do that? Like, the actor that is currently playing Sammy, do they just tell him "Oh yeah, we can get a celeb, so you are out of a job for a few weeks?". I can't think of a really good way to phrase it, but how do they handle it? Thanks. I just find it really unfair all of this stunt casting. I know it helps bring more money, but so many people that have talent and work really hard sometimes never got that good of an oppurtunity, and with some of these "celeberties" it is just handed to them on a plate. Sorry to rant

For the 100th time, Matthew Saldivar wasn't fired. He's leaving to work on other projects.
In the case of Chicago, the parts are only cast for a few months. There's no 1 guy in the part of Billy Flynn.

Posted: 8/24/06 at 3:33pmI didn't think he was fired. But when they hire a celeberty is it always when the other persons contract is always up?

Posted: 8/24/06 at 3:35pmI'm assuming, for the most part, yes. They wouldn't fire someone before their contracts up just to put someone else in the role, or else they'd have hell to pay with equity.

I wouldn't consider Constantine a celebrity, or even close to it.

Posted: 8/24/06 at 4:52pmNo, it's not always done when the current actor's contract is up. Rent did it twice over the years for the role of Mark, first with Joey Fatone and then with Drew Lachey. Matt was standby for most of the time that both of them were in the role, and basically, was paid to have a vacation when he could work on his own music, with the contract extension tacked on after they left. It was a pretty good deal for him.
