What musical should I do?

I am a director/producer of musicals for young people and I am always looking for shows to direct, as I do several a year. I have a great class with teens ages 13 to 18 and we are currently doing Chicago and last year we did Fiddler. I would like do something NOT so well known that requies a cast of 14 to 16 and lots of good female roles. Any suggestions?

SEUSSICAL is PERFECT for you!!
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Honk is a great idea! Also a youth theatre I was in did Phantom and it was incredible! It raised alot of money! (Muary Yeston's not Andrew Lloyd Webbers)
When someone blunders, we say that he makes a misstep. Is it then not clear that all the ills of mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill our history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders have arisen merely from a lack of skill in dancing. - Moliere

Into the Woods has great female roles. The music is tough though.

I'm a high school drama teacher as well. My suggestion would be the late 1980's Broadway and West End hit "Me and My Girl".
It's "My Fair Lady" in reverse. You need one strong male for Bill the cockney lead who becomes heir to a British fortune and must adjust to the upper classes. Great female lead, Great Vamp part, and great female character role as duchess. Very funny and very melodic with a great British Music Hall score. In my own case, I double cast major female roles....this creates performing understudies and more smiling girls when the cast list is posted. Samuel French holds the rights. Good luck!

re: What musical should I do?

Bye Bye Birdie, easy set, easy costumes, easy dance, easy songs. Crowd pleaser and the girls could have a lot of fun, however you do need some strong males for the show.
