I heard that there was going to be some re teching going on with Poppins. But, I am trying to figure out exactly what technical changes they are going to make. Anyone know?

I remember going once during the summer and they didn't have the umbrella during Anything Can Happen. I spoke to a cast member and they said that it wasn't working that afternoon so they didn't want to risk it for the evening show. Are they getting rid of it. What things are they changing?

I remember that someone on here said that they are going to do tech for a month, but would that mean closing the show down, or just adding tech rehearsals into the actors' schedules? Closing it down would be stupid, especially since 2 new actors just came in.

When the show was reteched in London, they simply rehearsed the new staging during the day while performing the current version at night...and they slowly added the changes into the show.

I mean I would think that Poppins on Broadway would need to make some tech changes. I remember going one time and they couldn't use the umbrella at the end of Anything can happen due to in just not working. And I heard that it wasn't the first time it didn't work either. I know that there were some tech things like the umbrella that they couldn't do in London because they didn't have enough storage space for it. They wanted to do it but they didn't have the room. That is why they did it on Broadway. There were a few other technical things that they added in for the Broadway production that were originally intended to be in the London one but once again due to lack of room to store the sets they had to ditch them.

They're making the kitchen transition visible now.

^That's awesome! I always felt like it was silly to have it come from underneath the stage even though the transition couldn't be seen.

And Winston, I have to disagree with you yet again about the London production...yes, the umbrella was unable to be fit in London, but they figured out a different way to have an umbrella on stage after they reteched the show...If they had wanted to do it in the first place, they would have figured out the alternate way in which they went about it.

I heard that thing involving the umbrella when I went to the book signing/discussion with the author of the Poppins coffee table book at barns and noble. He said that there were things like the umbrella and going into color in Jolly Holiday that they originally planed to do in London but couldn't due to lack of space. But, when they found out that people were liking them on Broadway they stopped caring about the fact that they had no space to put the set peaces in and did it anyways.
