Are people lining up before 5 PM? Will we be ok on Tuesday night if we get there right at 5?
Where are they seating you? The balcony?
Thanks in advance?
I wish people would search, because I've probably posted the same response like four times in the past month. But - I went about.... two or three weeks ago, most recently. Anyway, it's been fine. I'm unable to get there before about 6:15 or 6:30 because of daytime obligations. I went with a group of three others, and I asked the guy at the box office if he'd be able to give us orchestra seats, assuming they were available. He pulled out a seating chart and gave us a few options; we ended up sitting in the same seat, in four consecutive rows, as that was the way to get the best seats. They were LITERALLY dead center orchestra, starting in like the tenth row.
Two other times I went and didn't ask, I was in the center back Dress Circle - perfect seats to see everything in the sets, if only a tiny bit too far back.
But no - I've never seen a line, and they're very easy to get. You'll be golden if you get there at five.
Good luck!
are the people at the box office very strict on the policy? i only ask because i'm going back to see chitty again, VERY SOON and last time i was there in May i rushed producers and they didnt ask for any ID...i'm 18, but i look 16, and they just assumed for my size, i was a student, but i'm haven't started college yet, not until Sept. 5th...so i wont have my ID card..what kind of procedure is it Emcee?
Also from what you and other have said i'm very excited to see Raul again...(you read my review) but i'm glad to hear he's grown into the role...so i'm wishing him all the best!
Also, when I saw 42nd Street that FORD Center (same house)..i know that the first 2 or 3 rows were reserved for Student Rush, but i've heard different stories about Chitty's rush...what's the deal?
The only thing that they're super-strict about is that you can't do rush for matinee performances. Other than that, they seem to be pretty friendly and flexible.
You HAVE to present ID, and each ID will get you two tickets. If you still have a high school ID, and haven't gotten your college ID yet, they'll accept that. If not, you need to get someone who DOES have an ID on their person to go with you.
The technical deal with the seats is that you get whatever's left in the house, which obviously varies. There's not a set place in the theatre reserved for rush seats, though I've noticed that they tend to end up lumped together by default, though the exact location fluctuates a bit. I think they changed the policy a few times, and that led to a bit of confusion.
(And Raúl's getting TONS better - yay for him! I knew he'd do it.)
about the tickets though...not basing it on what you've done but if money weren't an issue...in your opinion (or anyone who has rushed chitty)...would you think it would be better to try TKTS first and see what they have or just go straight to the box office?
that may be a stupid question, but all i care about is the show....i'm not big on broadway marketing lol
Just do rush. The rush seats are almost always great seats. If you spend the same $25 at TKTS, you won't end up with seats that are nearly as good. You'll be paying upwards of $50 for the seats you'd get by rushing. Chitty has an unusually good rush policy; every time I've done it, I've gotten seats that usually go for the full $100.
(I'm not totally sure if I actaully addressed what you're asking...)
Its 2:16 am...i'm not even sure what i asked...I'll PM you in about 12 hours...

LOL. Sounds like a good plan.
Yay insomnia?
Not that this really has much to do with the original question but thought I'd just add it if for no other reason to show my appreciation of how great they are with rush. One Sunday I tried for Pillowman rush but missed it, so my friend never saw Chitty so we walked over just to see what kind of discounted tickets might be available or if some reason they had an all rush policy...so we asked if it would be possible to purchase student rush tickets to that day's show at 3. The woman at the box office said usually they don't have them for matinees but she happened to have 2 tickets or something for that day so we could buy them. They ended up being row N, right on the aisle of the right side, great seats. That was just really nice of them to do that, I really do like their policy. It's a pity that more shows that aren't selling at least 90 percent don't have a rush like they do.

I hope that they do the same for me! I'm going to try my luck at getting a rush seat for a matinee.
I heard that the past few matinees have been sold out, but good luck.

Well, I'm planning to go once most schools have started back up. Maybe that will help my chances. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking.
But thanks!
Probably. I suppose it depends on who's at the box office that day - some may be more willing to bend the rules than others.
A friend of mine tried to rush last Wednesday's matinee, and the person told her there's no rush for matinees, and wouldn't make the exception. I think it *may* have been sold out, which would explain it, but it sounds like WRQ just got lucky, and usually they do stick to.
I'll be there this weekend - ONCE more before I start school. Really. I need my fix of leading man brilliance.
This format wierd for anyone else?!
When I rushed Chitty, I got there in the morning for the evening show, and I was told there is no rush on Saturday nights, which doesn't make sense because my freiend did rush it on a Saturday. So, we went back around 5:30 and it was a different person, and we got student rush tickets, no questions asked.
They definitely do it on Saturday nights; it used to only be Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday nights, but like I said, it's changed so many times. And they're not really "supposed" to sell them before 5. I feel like it's sad that I've got this down to an exact science.
The format is weird because NYC's post is stretched out really far; he has one really long word.

Okay, I have a question. Since you seem to be experienced in the Chitty area.
Suppose they weren't sold out for the matinee, but they wouldn't offer me a rush ticket. Do you think I could buy a discounted ticket instead? By discounted I mean an orch. seat for under $100.
Just curious.
If it isn't sold out, sure. You could do it one of two ways; I know Playbill has a discount code right now, so you could print that out and have it on you just in case. You have to give the box office person an actual print-out of the offer code to be able to use it in person. OR you could go to TKTS.

Thank you so much. I'll definitely do that just in case!
Hooray!
heh, I'm so excited for this weekend now!
<--- =
(and I've been lucky so far, hopefully the streak continues and he's on. *knocks vigorously on wood*)
Good luck, I hope you get the student rush tickets and enjoy the show!
