Hello folks, this is my first time on this site so forgive me if this is a much-asked question. I live in Atlanta and planning a b-way trip for the spring (April) ... I want to see Wicked, Q, and maybe another show.
Looking into 'ticketmaster' for Wicked in April all of their seats seem to start in row 'X'.
Now I don't mind paying 100 bucks for such a show but I would like to get some decent seats. There are tons of 'scalper sites' (like Wickedtickets.com) that have better seats but they are very marked up. I paid the regular (kind of high) price for Lion King back in '01, and got seats far enough upstairs that I wished I could have been closer to get a better look at the costumes and sets.
What are the strategies some of you NY veterans suggest? I'd kind of like to have tix in hand before going up there but don’t really want to patronize scalpers. The ticket 'monopoly' is really out of control!
Thanks, Ray

I thought I just replied to this but it seems to have gotten lost in cyberspace. If it turns out to be a double message, forgive me.

Anyway, I'm originally from NY but now live in FL. When we go "back home" and want to make sure we have the best seats possible for a particular show, we use Broadway.com You tell them where you'd like to sit and, if available, they order the tickets for you and leave them for you at Will Call. Their markup is about 20%, last we used them (this past summer).

They are a little spotty on returning emails, but will be friendly and helpful when you call them on the phone (i.e. "I placed an order on Wed., you said you'd get back to me via email by Fri. and it's Mon. and I haven't heard anything yet.")/

Well, if you definitely know what shows you want to see..and Wicked and Q are on the list, don't rely on TKTS half-price tickets. But if you don't care what you see, you can go to the booth at Times Square and get discount tickets.

For shows like Wicked...if you don't want to take the Ticketmaster seats, either use www.broadway.com or www.broadwayinnercircle.com, which will charge you extra (especially broadwayinnercircle.com) but they are usually great seats and --in my opinion-- worth the money.

As far as Avenue Q, you can't find a bad seat in that theatre. But in my opinion for the Gershwin, the more center, the better. Hope that helps!
