What's the current state of BARE?

I don't mean to start another crazy obsessive BARE thread, but I just want to know where the production is. The last thing I heard was that the production is on hold until they can secure another major producer. That was back before October 27, when the show was officially supposed to open. I've been on both the Dodger Stages website and BARE's website and neither of them say anything official about the show's future. Is it just still in limbo? Are they giving up? Are there any hopes for this show?
It would be a shame if the show doesn't get the run it deserves.

i dont think postponed indefinitely means not happening. how do you expect them to provide a timeline for finding a new investor? of course how much effort theyre putting into looking might be a good question ...

Posted: 2/17/05 at 5:35pmI was at the Chatterbox a few weeks ago... Natalie Joy Johnson and Jesse Vargas both said some stuff about the show. They said that last anyone was officially told, it's been "postponed indefinitely," but neither one of them seemed to have even the slightest inclination that it would happen at all. They came across as very convinced that it was over.

jaimie they arent going to take down the Bare posters snce they are still holding theatre 1 at dodgers for Bare. Until they finally give in to rent the space, or get the backing, the Bare posters will remain.
Sad, since I absolutely loved this show, and hope it comes together soon.
They were originally releasing a full cd with jesse vargas orchestrations, even after the show was postponed. Does anyone know if this is still in the works? Or have they given up on the idea?

Posted: 2/17/05 at 5:41pmThe band tracks were recording, but apparently they're having trouble because... I forget the specifics, but for a few reasons: one being that there's no financial backing behind the show, so where would they get the money to record the CD? The second being that it would be making a recording of a show that's not running, which in terms of finances, isn't a good idea. And then, this is the part I forget, but there's some rule about technicalities behind recordings and how long it's been since the show did run.

Posted: 2/17/05 at 5:47pmThey actually did have backing for the cd from the original try out run in ny. There was some money left over to atleast partially finance the show. As for the other legits I guess that is what is holding them up. That sucks I would love to hear how jesse envisioned the show to sound. I would if 911 emergency was ever a big enough show to truly stop the show (I was never thrilled with this song/performance). The only minor aspect of the show that I wasnt thrilled with.

Posted: 2/17/05 at 5:51pmI think that's where what I said falls through. I can't remember, but it has something to do with financial backing combined with the time elapsed since the show ran.

Yeah to Mikeys album
and rumor was circulating after an interview with Damon that a CD of the show was going to be released with how it was to run at Doger's, of course that was in like Nov or so

Posted: 2/18/05 at 12:47amAccording to Mr. Arden (as of last night) there is no 'state of Bare'.
#20re: What's the current state of BARE?
Posted: 2/18/05 at 1:03amWell the show itself is done, we all know that. Last I heard though, they were VERY set on a CD.

No CD, no show, not yet.
My understanding from as inside as I ever got in this whole ordeal is that one backer pulled money out. IT's actually not a lot (I seriously think it might have been to the tune of 40 grand, which is pennies in the theatre world but it's not something people are just willing to drop on anything).
There's a lot of factors that go into a show opening and closing and I will say this: I wasn't a giant fan of the show (Although I'm a HUGE fan of certain performers in the show, namely one Natalie Joy Renee Roshika Blythe Johnson and Mr. Arden...and that guy, what's his name? John Hill, I think) but, having seen some work in the Dodger Spaces, I think it's a crying shame because that show would work in there so well.
That's my personal opinion as to why the space is still being "held" for the production. Nothing to fill it yet, still high hopes that some money is going to pull through from someone and get the show into that space.

The theatre space hasn't been holding for BARE. Maybe BARE will happen, but if so they're not telling anyone. The stage was being held at one time and I don't know when that changed. But for awhile another show was all set to come into that stage in March. I won't say what the show was, cause I don't know how sticky the situation is. It was on the schedule and was even posting on some job sites to hire people for their "March production at Dodger Stages".
It had done everything short of making an official announcement (a few actor contracts weren't done, is what I hear) when apparently they pulled the plug too for a very similar reason to BARE. I have no idea if anything is planned for the theatre at this point, but I can tell you that it hasn't just been sitting there waiting for Damon to win the lottery. I wish they'd change the signs or announce something and stop keeping people in suspense.

Posted: 2/18/05 at 3:24amDo you work for Dodgers? I would think they wouldn't keep the signs up if it wasn't going to happen. But then again, I would totally keep the signs up just in case it DOES happen. It's too bad.

Posted: 2/18/05 at 3:41amJust an usher at the stages, was actually set to be head usher for that show. they don't tell us anything classified, so what I know is basically what gets around the grapevine. It's no secret that this show was set for that stage, as they were posting all over (even Craig's List) in January for staff and clearly mentioning the stage and the March date. this is not any more info than we'll give when a patron asks about BARE (which they do, daily). the last thing I know is that the theatre was booked by someone, now it isn't booked by them. now, maybe they've worked out something new with BARE or some other show, or maybe they're trying to get that figured out. for all I know, BARE could happen but people shouldn't interpret the signs and website to mean it still is being held. they should interpret it to mean that nothing else has happened official enough for them to pay the sign-changing people.
