well i am excited to see how it comes together in SF.
I'm still trying to figure out what everyone's problem is...
I'm a bit of a musical theatre elitist, and will defend (not that he needs it) the likes of Sondheim against stuff like Wicked to the death... but I gotta say, I like every song they've released so far.
This is a upbeat, comedy... what, exactly is so bad about "Ohmigod you guys" other than "I don't like it." When I hear it, knowing the context of the song, it sounds like a great opener. They're sorority girls, for god's sake.
It seems to me that this show has the makings of being the next Hairspray. So far it seems upbeat and fun. I seriously think this is one we're going to have to see in person before bashing it into the ground.
"A friend of mine, upon listening to "Omigod You Guys!", brought up an interesting point the other day about movie musicals, and this one in particular. She thinks failure stems if the lead is not played by the actor who defined such a character."
I don't think that's necessarily a bad argument, but another one that a friend proposed to me is that sometimes shows of movies aren't successful because the soundtrack of the movie is so memorable that people would rather just listen to that. Essentially, some people might wonder if there's a point to going to see The Wedding Singer to hear new music that's trying to sound like 80s music when they can just listen to the real 80s tunes from the film. Legally Blonde doesn't really have that problem because the soundtrack wasn't all that memorable.

Good point.
The problem with the songs is that it's nothing new, nothing groundbreaking, and simply just not interesting. If you like it, good for you, but that doesn't mean we all have to too.
I agree with your point, but when people say they like it they get bashed.

True, it happens both ways, and I doubt it will stop. I mean it's a message board, it's just full of opinions. I just think "these kind of musicals" give Broadway a bad rap and lessens the importance of musical theater.
Kungaloosh, my thoughts exactly.
Whoever said the movie soundtrack wasn't "big" is wrong. Doesn't anyone remember "perfect Day" and "A thousand miles"? There's no point in speculating as much as we've been. It's all going to come down to what's put up on stage, and whether LBB is good enough or not. Nothing more, nothing less. So it's a wait and see thing for now no matter what any of us thinks.
omg you guys
merry christmas
look at me i'm original
i made fun of the song
lol omg you guys
omg wow i should do stand up
im better than stephen lynch

It might have had a hit or two, but it definitely isn't as big of a thing in pop culture as the soundtracks for Footloose or even The Wedding Singer.
It doesn't really matter what the show is--- not everyone is always going to like it just because it's a musical. Even Sondheim gets bashed. No one is going to make 100% of the musical theatre community happy and excited with every outing. Every show gets bashed but that doesn't mean failure. Wicked has been BASHED TO DEATH from the very beginning in San Fran and yet sells out every night around the world. So you're theory of these message boards causing the death of a show doesn't hold much weight. The responders on these boards are everyone from the very actors being discussed, to stage hands, to disgruntled wanna-be's to high school thespians thinking they're experts.
You gotta take everything you read with a grain of salt. If you're excited or even curious to see a show, then go see it for yourself. Don't rely on some silly message board to make decisions for you.

I can see parts of it that I might enjoy and parts that may be a little too much even for me. I liked the demo, but what they show of the What You Want song is pretty bland.
Christian Borle, though. I could not love him more.
I think the reason they took so long for this video was because it was the first time they had the full cast again.
wut?

Well, here's another video all about how great it is to work with Jerry Mitchell. I personally would have enjoyed seeing more performance footage. I'm sure Mitchell is all that, but really.

Are you new?
No, are you aiming for sarcasm?
Yes, ruprecht i agree...i really would like to see some singing not just voice overs over the work.I am pretty excited for the show, because Jerry Mitchell is a genius and he will do good. They need to put up things more quicker though. They do not need everyone...like could put up some Orfeh or Kate videos...just focusing on certain characters.
There is a new video up. They will be re-doing LBB's pad while she is in SF. She is so adorable.

Absolutely *adorable* of Andy Karl and Orfeh getting ready for the trip to San Francisco. Definitely worth a watch!
Orfeh and Andy are so cute together! I can't wait for the next video!
Now that was interesting fun and insightful, not to mention adorable. Happy anniversary to them.
They're so funny! This video makes up for the past couple snooze fests.
