no its ok, i just wanted to let you know that it takes place in the 80's, so the hair or fashion wouldnt scare you (or anyone else).
*headdeeeeeeeesk*
It's not really that people think there's a set way the hair should be - that a Latina or a wannabe rock star can only have one hairstyle, but that they're upset that it's not the SAME as it was originally - not for the TYPES of people they are, but for the individual, specific characters.
But honestly, what's done is done. Let's just wait and see.
I am deeply offended by the hairstyles in this movie and will therefore be boycotting it.
Smart ass.

It's hair; you cut it, it grows back and if you don't, it grows longer. Leave it alone.
I'm glad they changed certain aspects of the characters looks for the movie only because every performer going into their respective roles was given to a certain "look" because of the actors who originated the roles and the characters after awhile were coming off as caricatures. Take all the "Mimis" for instance. Some actresses resorted to curly wig pieces a la Daphne Rubin-Vega to emulate her. I don't think that anywhere in the libretto does it state that "Mimi" *must* have curly hair.
The changes are good because it sets it apart from the stage show giving it it's own identity. The important thing is that the heart, soul and overall message of the show is retained and remains intact.
Wax Lion wants everyone to remember that Fredi *did* have dreadlocks during the original run of RENT, albeit a bit longer than Tracie's. Keep in mind that the movie delves deeper into the human psyche than the show does, for the cinematic medium allows us to do so. You'll get your short-haired Roger, so don't fret. Keep in mind that this movie isn't entirely about Mimi's curly hair and Roger's plaid pants. These characters are going to become more real than ever before, and Wax Lion is sure that you won't be dissapointed.
Love,
Wax Lion
Thanx Wax Lion! :)
Wax Lion is our resident RENT insider. He/She/It should know.
Besides if Roger's trying to look like a late eighties rock star he should look like he stole Jon Bon Jovi's hair.
Wax Lion, you had the same idea I had. Fredi, did have dreadlocks, and so does one of the current Joanne understudies, Crystal Monee Hall (who is fantastic, by the way). I do n't think there's any specific "Joanne hair."
And, it's just hair. BIg deal.
