Although I'm not an enormous fan of WEST SIDE STORY, "Somewhere" is such an amazing song. The lyrics are so beautiful. "We'll find a new way of living. We'll find a way of forgiving. Somewhere." So touching. I love listening to Barbra's last concert because her last speech was very inspirational, and then she sang "Somewhere" for her finale. A very moving piece of work.

Who's sondheiN?
I wish Sweeney Todd would introduce me to someone. Just not that Sondhein, he is one sketchy guy.

Mine would be when I saw The King & I when I was 7 or 8. It inspired me to do theatre. The Lion King was also very inspirational....

Titanic was the first show which really made a dramatic impact on my goals in life...
But the recent revival of Sweet Charity was the one that holds the great profound impact. I think i learned the most it is okay to live and love, even when things turn out wrong there is always tomorrow.

I posted last month about the show that changed my life forever, and what led to me seeing it:

I don't think I would be here right now if not for it's impact on me.

HAIRSPRAY, I truly identify with Tracy Turnblad, she's always wanted to be a star but people scouff at her because she's chubby and not the picture of perfection. I felt truly connected to her through the whole show, and her attitude had a profound empression on me, people use to tell me, I'd never get a good part in a show because I was fat, and I couldt do certain things, but because of HAIRSPRAY, I now could carless what other say, just as Tracy does. "You can't stop the beat"
Rent and The Last Five Years (i know it's not broadway...but...)
Rent - I know alot of people say this and it does sound corny but I truly identify with Mark Cohen....hell I am the female version of Mark.
And for some reason the Last five years does it for me too. I can't even explain this one.
Playing Michal in the Pillowman made me realize how much I truly love acting. Such an amazingly well crafted play, it breaks my heart every time.
Although I'm not a huge fan of the film version of A Chorus Line, I saw it before the stage version and it really had a profound impact on me. I was 17 and trying to decide what to do in college. When I saw that movie, I decided I didn't want to go to college--that what I really wanted was to go straight to New York. Of course, I did the pratical thing and went to school, majoring in theatre. But I always wonder (especially when I make my student loan payment) what might have happened if I had skipped school and moved to New York at 18. It might have been horrible, it might have been great (it's easier to be poor in NY when you are really young). I guess I'll never know.

A really difficult question to answer. I try to take something positive away from each theatrical experience, and most recently, of course, it has been Light In The Piazza. But my all-time favorite show has to be Man of La Mancha, because of the message it tries to get across to the audience - always look for the good in each experience (people, places, events). Second to that would have to be Sunday in the Park with George- simply because of the idea of Children and Art being the two most important things we leave behind us when we depart this world.

The Light in the Piazza
Les Miserables and Into the Woods.
What show (or part of a show) has had the most profound impact on you, possibly even changing your life? Why/How?
As a child, my family and I would go and see A Christmas Carol every year at MSG. I would look forward to this all year long and when it finally came, I was in heaven. I was fascinated by the costumes and the scenery and how everything moved and when a building would turn one way it was a bedroom, and the other way a face.
Even now I get a rush of excitement when I walk into a Broadway house, or any other theatre for a while. This was my first introduction to theatre and I love it for that!
Without question, MY FAIR LADY. It's the standard by which I judge (even unconsciously), every show I've seen, since. Most have not measured-up.

Aida- What got me into musical theater.
Rent- After I left the Nederlander, I had more knowledge about how people live. It really made me appreciate what and who I had.
Wicked- I wouldn't say it necessarily changed my life, but it showed me that it's NOT IMPOSSIBLE to create magic on the stage.

Sure, we joke around about Cats but I bet you that would be the choice for some. When my niece was 3-4 years old, she could sing the entire score of the show and dance along because of the DVD release.

Sweeney Todd - hard to put into words the effect it had on me. Was very powerful and moving.
Close second would be Into the Woods. The show has so many layers that no matter how many times I've listened to the songs I am still hit by something new.
