I think BSo is saying that the "Disneyfication" of Broadway is causing lesser known but better quality shows to close.

You know what is annoying me? I love seeing closing nights, they're usually special. But how the hell can I attend all these closing nights this weekend, not even considering all the cast changes? I'm not a happy bunny.
It's all about organisation, right? Broadway, get your act together!!!

There are those who think it is a good thing - out with the old & in with the new. Bottom line is short term you have empty theaters . Long term you may have the same thing if critics continue to rip shows and/or audiences stay away

Unless they decide to extend it, "Pacific Overtures" had always been scheduled to close on January 30th..

EVERY show at Roundabout is a limited engagement. They are a subscription-based non-profit theatre. CABARET was a fluke.

There's a simple reason why a bunch of shows are closing right now- the tourist-rich Christmas/New Year's holiday has ended, and the dead time of winter is about to begin. If you're going to close, now's the time. Attendance is going to be awful for the next couple of months.

Wait, does someone have a link to Pacific Overtures closing? I was just talking to someone today about it. It is one of her favorite shows and she thought it was running until April.

Doubt is also closing Off-Broadway on January 30th, though it is moving to Broadway sometime in the spring.

Right. All of the Roundabout stuff starts out as a limited engagement. Many of them do get extension's, but Cabaret was an anomaly. Seven years.
