SO sadly; some of the tony empty handed shows will unfortunately soon face the curtain. What does everyone think will be the first to go? I'm thinking it is a toss up between Caroline or Wonderful Town. Even though Town might get a slight box office boost at first from that number.

I think Wonderful Town. I didn't see the show when I was there last year, but last night's performance didn't make me regret that decision.
Do we think Joey Fatone will be enough to sustain Little Shop, or will it be a goner? Caroline's box office is a lot stronger than Wonderful Town's so if we take the plant out of the equation, my guess would be Wonderful Town.

If Ms. Pinkin's performance indicates that the musical's title is an 'either/or' proposition, I vote for 'Change.'
I'm leaning towards "change." I was the only one at our party that had seen "Town" ; but after that number everyone wanted to see it. I think it will get a initial boost but it wont last that much longer.
wickedrawbrt - I totally disagree - seeing the performance from Wonderful Town last night really made me want to see it as soon as I can afford to. Donna was amazing and the number was hilarious. I really liked the choreography also. It proved to me that the old stuff really outshines a lot of the newer stuff on Broadway - the writing is SO much better than, say, Wicked for example.

We have tickets to see "Wonderful Town" in LA - and as much as I can't say I would like people to lose a gig in NY, if it meant she'd go on tour, that would be OK with me. Although, it seems HIGHLY unlikely.

Wonderful Town has been around 50% capacity and losing money for months and was clearly just holding on hoping for a Tony won. Caroline's attendance figures have actually been in the mid-80's for weeks, and with its low running costs, it's making a nice profit right now and, if they can maintain numbers anywhere near that (70% +), it should have no trouble getting through Summer and probably Fall (the winter doldrums are another matter altogether --we'll see how they do come January).
Unless "Swing" results in some kind of box office miracle, expect Wonderful Town to post a closing notice in the very near future.

Maybe I will look at it again. I really like Ms. Murphey (I have Passion on dvd and have worn it out), but that song just didn't grab me. However, I'm not above admitting I'm wrong.
Last week Caroline was 100 grand and 28% capacity better off than Town though. Unless Lot's Wife made everyone watching want to kill themselves, I think Caroline might be here for a bit longer.
Wickedrawbrt - wasn't being hard on you - sorry if it sounded that way - I just really love the fact that I was so pleasantly surprised by the humor that Donna brought to that performance. I've only seen her in passion and some concert stuff - and it was always dramatic singing - but this number really made me want to see Wonderful Town, and many of my friends have raved about her - they say it's like seeing a masterclass in performance!
ok i think they both should close they both sucked!! especially Town? did that song have anewords or was it all noise?
Dgrant;
Unfortunatly I believe Lucie Arnaz is doing the tour.

Dame - You don't say - I saw her in "They're Playing Our Song," about four centuries ago it seems.
Also, I keep thinking about Ms. Brodie's line - "For people who like that sort of thing, that's the sort of thing they like." It's helping me to put into perspective alot of the attitudes and comments being expressed about last night
DAME, are you serious about Lucy?
I don't think Hunter's win would have helped LSOH since he is leaving, anyway. And since that was the only major award it was up for the Tonys won't make a bit of difference in their business.
Sueleen,
She hosted a Meals on wheels event a few months ago and she announced that she was going on a national tour with Wonderful Town. And then someone on this board also has posted about it. Thats about as much as I know.

Expect word as to what is closing in 2 weeks on Wednesday.
Wonderful Town has no one to blame but themselves. They picked that dud.

I want to see Avenue Q so much. Not because of the hype from yesterday or by the porformance (which I sadly did not see but my friend recorded it for me! :) ) but because I've wanted to see it for a very long time. Oh yeah, please remember I have the sense of time like a 6 year old does. A long time for me means about a month. '___'
