except that After Eight does not have that many teeth.
The many learned and intelligent responses I have read with great interest here, even from the one whos' seemingly posturing knowledge sometimes annoys me, has opened my eyes to the amount of research some go to before a ticket is bought.
I read the advert., think that sounds good, and buy a ticket[always a single and on an aisle]. If I am hating it[movie/show/concert] I leave at an appropiate time or interval-no big deal and I don't disturb anyone.
Whizzer--have always said that authors who endorse other books could not possibly have time to read so many and write that they MUST get paid a fee for their name. But does that guarantee that I will enjoy that book just because an author I read says 'kept me up all night'? It will make me take a 2nd look at the synopsis to see if the story line interests me but that is where the final decision lies-with ME and NOT the paid for critique.
The main reason I haunt my local library and order newly released novels[yes-I read the critiques then order]-is that I can return said book after 20 pages and costs me zilch.
That was quite a detour-sorry-from Broadway to my local library.
Off today on a 4 night cruise[the ocean type] to let the wind blow through my hair[I'm bald due to chemo] so you will be free of my ramblings.

SweetLips - It sounds like you know what you're doing, and you make the appropriate risk, and your etiquette sounds fine. I do feel I have to apologize for the abrasiveness of my previous posts - I was only being so harsh in response to being fired up from After Eight, in particular. You seem to be among the most pleasant people on these boards, so I hope I did not somehow offend you. Everyone is free to do their own level of research and decision-making before they see a show - but ultimately, as you said, it is your decision and yours alone as to whether you want to put the money down, and when you do that you do assume the risk that it might not be good. I hope you enjoy your cruise.
Oak2........case packed..can't wait to be greeted by charming sailors all in white[or flesh-toned !].

However, walking out while the actors are on stage shows that you have little respect or appreciation for the weeks or months (or in the case of the authors/composers, years) of hard work that have gone into creating the show. We can see you from the stage, and we know what you're doing. You can stick it out until the interval.
"Maybe they needed am emergency restroom break?

I know someone who walked out of The Light In The Piazza during intermission with her voice students in tow. One of my favorite musicals EVER. Opinions differ.

I wish I had done the same. They obviously knew something about music. Too bad they had wasted their time and money.
I hate to admit it, but I was very close to walking out after the second act of The Flick. While I could appreciate the intense sense of realism they were going for, I couldn't bare to sit through three hours of it. The Humans did a much better job of maintaining a sense of realism, while continuously being able to keep the action moving.
Perhaps it was direction? Sam Gold v. Joe Mantello?
