Posted: 2/8/05 at 12:11amWhen a Broadway show is papered, or has a lot of comps, they are not recorded in their grosses or attendance!!! I repeat, they are not recorded for their grosses or attendance. When a show is playing to 100% attendance, you will have a hard time finding a person who got a comp for that show.

Posted: 2/8/05 at 12:18amI just get frustrated when people are like shows are getting a lot of comps, so the attendance is kind of whack. NOT TRUE

#6re: When shows are comped...
Posted: 2/8/05 at 12:23amThey're obviously not counted in the gross (they can't be,) but are you positive that they're not counted as the %? I have heard otherwise, but how do you know for sure?

Also, have you ever gone to a show on like a Wed night, and the theatre was full, and then you see that it was at like 50% that week, this is why. Sure, comps can fill the theatre at times, but they are not counted in the attendance %, I guarentee you

Posted: 2/8/05 at 12:28amYes... When I saw LITTLE WOMEN, It looked like the theater was sold-out, but their gross was only 60% for that week.. :p
#10re: When shows are comped...
Posted: 2/8/05 at 12:35amI trust you, but you can't compare 1 sold out performance to a questionable 7 other performances. 1 sold out night out of 7 hardly means anything.

Posted: 2/8/05 at 12:39amI know, and that is a merely after the fact observation. For instance, I saw Brooklyn twice in one week, Tuesday and Thursday, both were about 80% filled, and a friend who went Friday night,a nd another who went Saturday night, said it was indeed sold out (or very very close to it). Yet, that week it was at I think 54% or something. Just saying...

Many shows give comps.
With comps I saw THE BOY FROM OZ and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, sly fox, gv, little shop, and few more

When I saw Wicked, they wouldn't let you back in without a ticket. Maybe someone can tell me whether Elphaba escaped or was captured

Posted: 2/8/05 at 5:36pmSo if comps are not counted, does that mean that on Press Night there is a 0% attendance?
#19re: When shows are comped...
Posted: 2/8/05 at 5:37pmI just tried to say that even hits (THE BOY FROM OZ) give comps.

Posted: 2/8/05 at 5:39pmI know, and even hits have weeks when they are not at 100% capacity. And Boy from Oz is the only hit you listed by the way

Heh, Taboo was a second-acters paradise. I miss it!
Thanks for this post, I've been curious about this for awhile. My main reason for asking is when the gross seems relevant to the attendance percentage yet everyone is claiming comp. I believe completely that many shows comp, probably more than is assumed, but I was curious on how that affects the weekly reports.
