...the show must still go on.
Was anyone else at Altar Boyz tonight when the cast had to perform for 20 minutes essentially in the dark? Right before "La Vida Eternal," the lights went completely out for about 10 seconds, then came back on with only the house lights lit and no lights on stage. The show was stopped for a few seconds and then everyone came back out and performed the next two and a half numbers with no stage lights. It was CRAZY. You never really focus too much on lighting when you go to a show, but when it's not there, you really do miss it! I was sitting in row G and really couldn't see any of the actors' facial expressions and random people kept running back and forth on the sides of the theater to try and fix the problem. Never seen anything like that before!
The lights were fixed in the middle of 9:18 which got a huge applause from the audience, but it was really funny because a lot of the spotlight was messed up and during "I Believe" when Abraham was singing his solo, the light was not on David Josefsberg like it should've been, but rather on some random guy sitting in the fourth row. David, complete darkness. Man in fourth row, HUGE spotlight. Hysterical.
I'm telling you, after seeing the show 8 times already, I thought it was impossible to see too many surprises... but I was very glad to learn I was wrong!!!
Altar Boyz will never disappoint :)

wow... that sounds wild, and funny...
Oh my gosh! I was there last night too!
I was so sad because it was my first time I saw the show...I feel like Tyler stole the show, partly because I didn't get to see the other guys shine in their solos. Tyler said the lights have gone out a few times already. I guess the new theaters still have a few tangles they need to straighten out.
I thought it was so random how the spotlight was on the guy in the 4th row for almost a song...I remember thinking, "Is there a reason that light is on that guy in the audience?" I was so sad the guys on stage were sitting in darkness...man, I should go see it again....Any chance of a refund so I can go see the show again??

mint, I'm so sorry that that happened at your first time at the show! at least you had an experience you won't soon forget.
Just out of curiosity I was wondering if they would refund people's money, but I'm guessing that because the show DID go on, that probably not... but maybe!

I don't where these came from, but...
...in case anyone was wondering what Altar Boyz looked like with no stage lights and full house lights.
They were awesome even if they were kind of in the dark.
I was there last night, also and yes, they did a great job adlibbing and going on with the show. Lights or not, I LOVED it!

That is an interesting story. The show must go on though!

Is it sad that I do pay attention to the lights, even to the point of gasping at a really good (or really bad) lighting cue?
that happened when i saw Jekyll and Hyde at a local theater, but the entire power went out 15 min before the end of the show. I had never seen the show before. so i wanted to see it again so i could see what happened. so we got free tickets to the show that night. it was great i saw it twice in one day...so i gues ive posted before ive seen it twice, but i've really seen in three times lol
im seeing altarboyz in the spring!!! i cannot wait!!!
When I saw Sound Of Music at my communities theatre, a power fuse blew, so there was this enormously loud BANG during "My Favorite Things" so all the power went out EVERYWHERE in the theatre...then after 10 minutes of sitting in the audience, they restarted the song and everything was back to normal.
Glad to hear Altar Boyz could ad-lib their way through the blackout :)
cattlecall, I've been wondering if I could get a refund too...I shoulda called the box office today, I guess it might be too late if I show up at the box office a week later and ask for a refund?
How does the refund policies work anyways? I've never had to ask for a refund before (except at movie theaters, which is really easy to get a refund).
That happened to me during Fame at Interlochen. We were performing "Hard Work" and all of a sudden ALL of the lights came up, including houselights...and THEN they all went out for about 20 seconds. We just kept dancing!!!
The lights went out AGAIN at the show tonight!! It happened during the same scene it happened at last night and the cast had to continue on with the show in the dark, with the house lights turned on and the stage lights, completely off.
Thankfully for the cast, this lasted only about 7 or 8 minutes, and the lights returned to normal during a very appropriate part in "La Vida Eternal."
Overall, another very exciting night at the theater!
And yes, I do realize that I have seen this show 3 nights in a row. Yes, I do realize that I have a problem with addiction.

Wait, Cattlecall, is that YOU in your icon??????????? Are you the Altar Boy known as Abraham?????
Oh Native... always with the jokes!!!
wow cattlecall..3 times? I hope you're getting the rush tickets (like I did)
Did you try to get a refund?
The lights went out AGAIN at the show tonight!!
Is Dodgers having trouble paying their electric bills?
How odd that the lights keep going out, at the same moment, no less. In a brand new structure you would think the wiring would be top of the line.

hey mint,
definitely am doing the rush tickets and i didn't ask for a refund because i had the seen the show before and i actually thorougly enjoyed the light problems!
hey cattlecall, have you met any of the boyz? I was walking by the stage door when I saw Tyler come out, he's the sweetest guy. Got a hug and everything. =)
I've met a few of the boyz and they are as nice as can be. Haven't had the opportunity to meet Tyler yet, but I'll be at the show a couple hundred more times so I'm sure my time with him will come! Glad to hear he was so nice to you.
