And I'm not saying I really wanted to hear the Memphis writers make a speech on national TV, but I do think it's rather attrocious that these two important awards were not on the telecast. I know back in 1978 when this happened, Sondheim (then president of the Guild), fought with the Wing, the League and the Network over it and the following year he and Hugh Wheeler were up there on national TV, as were many more writers for years to come. Will Stephen Schwartz do the same this year? I hope so. I would hate to see a potentionl winner next year like David Yazbek or John Kander get the same treatment.

You know.... the way they edited down the speeches and presented them on the telecast got me to thinking: Why not do that with the acting awards. Present the awards pre-telecast, let the actors make their long-winded speeches, then on the broadcast read the nominees, announce the winner and show a 30" clip from the pre-show speech. It would allow a tighter show and hopefully allow longer and more musical numbers.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

I'd love to see a 30 inch clip.

Besides, I was horrified that they didn't bother to show the lifetime achievement awards except for a little clip!
