Will's last performance in the show is saturday. Does anyone know when they are going to announce her replacement?
Also, does anyone know if Ford will do the role on Broadway sometime soon?

Posted: 8/12/08 at 4:04pmYes, a lot of us would care, but not until they get to the 4,000 replacement. Jennifer is not the 3999th Christine. : )

Posted: 8/12/08 at 4:05pmTalk about a craptacular that needed to close a long time ago. Free up this theatre so that something new can come in.

It is not that crap-tacular and it sells many seats. It is one of those shows that still gets group after group after group into the theater.
I would love for it to be polished up a bit. Maybe make it a little more Vegas Spectacular but it is still a good money maker.

Posted: 8/12/08 at 4:44pmAnd why would they need to polish it up? Leave it in its perfect 1980's form. And Harold Prince STILL goes to the Majestic every few months to make sure the show is still tight and on point. I tell you, these young whippersnappers need to start respecting their elders!

Posted: 8/12/08 at 5:47pmExactly, I went over to the box office the other day and I tried to snag a single ticket. I couldn't because it was sold out. It amazes me that after all these years this show is still able to sell out every so often. I sometimes feel that it is the only long running show currently playing on Broadway to be able to still do that. Clearly there is something right going on with the show. Otherwise they wouldn't sell out as often as they do.

To be fair, The Lion King is ten years old, and it still sells out just about every night.
Wicked is about to be 5, and it's also still a consistent sell-out. Ditto Jersey Boys.
But, Phantom is in a class all its own, selling this well after 20 years.

When I was writing my last post, I was thinking about that sort of thing. I was thinking about Mamma Mia and how it is seven years old and it is selling out. But, I stopped myself because I feel that the reason why it is selling out over the summer is because it is the summer and it is having the same rush that every musical turned movie had.
But, I do find it amazing for the show to be 20 years old and to still sell out. That does indeed put it in a class all its own.

Hold up hold up hold up. Are people on this board actually saying positive things about Phantom? And the board hasn't collapsed into itself or something? Wow. But I know you Phantom haters are still out there, and this is for you:

Posted: 8/12/08 at 6:25pmGeorge, I am confused I would love it if you could help me out. I thought you love Phantom and visit it once a week. Wouldn't you be happy that people are saying nice things about this show rather then ripping it to bits

Of course its nice to hear people say positive things about Phantom, but when its on this board, where the only thing people can say about Phantom is now they need to Vegas-ize it.........I dont know something is not right in the Land of BWW...... : )
But hey, I did post that video, at least I said "hi" to the Phantom haters : )

Posted: 8/12/08 at 7:34pmShe's still there? OMG, I thought I missed her. Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of going back anyway, and especially to see JHW (I adored her in Wonderful Town), but I never got around to it. Free this Sat-gonna see what I can get.

George I was joking round with you.
I too would like to see Wills one last time but I don't know if I will get to be able to. I went yesterday to see if I could get a ticket but they were sold out even in SRO. I don't know if that is because it was a monday and very few shows play on a monday or if it is just because it is Phantom over the summer.

Posted: 8/12/08 at 8:35pmYou're makin me want to go see it tomorrow now. I was thinkin of seeing something at 2 and 8 tomorrow anyway. But I wont be sitting front and center---I'm all discounts, all the time
#23re: When will they announce the replacement for Jennifer Hope Wills in Phan
Posted: 8/12/08 at 11:02pmThe only time I have ever sat front row center was when I was able to sneak down there two different times at intermission. After siting there I got a better understanding of how prince directs from the Mezz. It was very close and if I had not seen the show before from another area of the theatre. I might not have enjoyed myself. But, because it wasn't my first time seeing the show I had a great time.

Posted: 8/12/08 at 11:45pmActually the very first time I saw it on Broadway, I sat in the front row, on the side. I was soooo so so so so sooooooo excited about it, but I didn't enjoy it at all because being that close, it was like I could only look at one thing at a time on the stage instead of the whole picture. Even when I sat in the 5th row a couple years ago I thought that was too close. I like about row K of the orch or anywhere in the front mezz.
