Michael Berresse should've gotten that Broadway leading-man role years ago, especially after his Tony-nominated, breakout 2000 performance in ''Kiss Me, Kate.'' (Frankly, he should've won.) Even back then, there was talk about a stage adaptation of MGM's ''An American in Paris,'' and he would've been perfect as Jerry (the Gene Kelly role). Meantime, Berresse has become quite the director, and next month he directs Zak Resnick and Margo Seibert in ''The Last Five Years'' at A.C.T. in San Francisco.
