Which Musicals?

We are currently buying tickets for our spring 2020 trip to NYC (we've bought tickets to eight shows already). We just heard that "Assassins" is coming (off-Broadway). I have two open nights at this point. I'd really like to see "Almost Famous" and "Mrs. Doubtfire" in the spring if they are coming, but I've never seen "Assassins" either. Since "Assassins" tickets will be going on sale soon, would you recommend seeing that, or waiting to see if "Almost Famous" and/or "Mrs. Doubtfire" are coming in the spring? What about "The Flamingo Kid"? Any suggestions or information would be appreciated!

Depending on how you like to manage your time/take chances on shows, I would personally buy the Assassins tickets. With the cast and it being an off-Broadway production, I feel like it would be a harder ticket to get than another show which could have an open run in a Broadway house that you might be able to catch on a different trip (assuming you're a person who comes to NYC somewhat regularly). Even if those other shows do come in this season, you could also always try reselling the tickets to Assassins and snagging a different one instead. There's been a lot of general buzz around Almost Famous, but it hasn't even made it through its first run yet and Mrs. Doubtfire hasn't even started performances yet either so I'm not sure that they'd be able to transfer so quickly.

I’m assuming you’ve seen the musicals that are currently playing. Personally, of the new musicals confirmed to open before your trip I’m excited for Assassins, Company, Tina, Jagged Little Pill, West Side Story, Six, Girl from the North Country, Flying Over Sunset, and Caroline, or Change.

Not sure what all you’ve already bought, but Company goes on Amex presale Oct. 3. I’m very excited about that one.

I would definitely get the Assassins tickets. There is no guarantee any of those Broadway shows you are eyeing will actually open this spring. Not that it means too much, but the reviews for Almost Famous and Flamingo Kid have not been particularly strong.

I would assume one or maybe two of the three will be open, and you said you have two slots. So if it was me, I would get tickets for Assassins, Company, Little Shop of Horrors if it continues to extend, or some interesting play like the Jungle at St. Ann’s or the Minutes, and hold the second slot open for one of the three Broadway shows you mentioned. Who knows, maybe something else will open you didn’t expect like Mr. Saturday Night.

Also, if you have not already, take a look at Between The Lines at Second Stage. It looks good to me.

It would be cool to see two Sondheim revivals (Assassins, Company) within the same trip.

I am wondering if they will have the cheap partial view side mezzanine tickets for this show, as they had in Betrayal.

I hadn't heard anything about when tickets went on sale so thank you for posting this! I'm really excited about this show as well.
