Forget the orchestrations. Forget the recordings. Forget the first, second, or even the fifth verses. Forget the chorus.

Which showtune out of all of them has the very best third verse?

My choice would be "Day by Day" from Godspell by Stephen "Wicked" Schwartz.

Well, that's...that's a very different question. I'm unclear about the actual numbering of the verses in some cases, but out of nowhere, I'll go with Ah, But Underneath from Follies and No Good Deed (but that one's mainly because it's stuck in my head and I can't listen to it right now because I'm at work). Due to the not-able-to-listen-to-itness, that song is now one of the greatest songs ever composed in the history of mankind...and thus has the best third verse.

"Not-able-to-listen-to-itness" is what happens when you keep having a certain song running through your head and you're stuck somewhere (i.e. the subway, work, etc.) and can't listen to it. Thus, you want to hear this song more than any other song, thus making it the greatest song ever...for you, at least. This will change for me at 5 when I get off work. :)

Best 3rd verse....I don't know

Best Verse...
"When he talks
He is seeking
words to get
On his chest
Horizontally speaking
he's at his very best
vexed again
oh yes, perplexed again
thank God, I can be oversexed again
bewitched bothered and bewildered
Am I"

"When Broadway first reviewed this wench
The Press was catty,
They all agreed I'd even stench
In Cincinnati.
But if I laid an awful egg,
I'm still as hot as Mayor Hague,
So in case you want to start a fire,
Wire Hattie."

Cole Porter, I've Still Got My Health
PANAMA HATTIE

See what I mean when I say

Yours for a better Broadway!

"Getting Married Today" from COMPANY. So good, nobody can agree to perform it without having insomnia.
