I saw her in concert in 1985 at Woolsey Hall in New Haven CT and she sang I am Changing from Dreamgirls and it was AMAZING!

Rob,
I had two..One from Radio City Music Hall (which I lost)and the one I now have is in poor sound taped off TV from the 1994 American Music Awards where she combines "And I am telling you" with "I loves you Porgy" and "I have nothing"...
I also have a medley with her doing "Lover Man" and "My Man" and "All the Man I need"...where she is in reflugent voice..
and her singing a part of "La Donna e' Mobile" where she sings in operatic soprano voice, in italian and lands a soprano High A....
I maybe able to burn these but not for a week or so...

I think that Whiteny.... in her day, would have done a pretty good job with those songs.

The "And I am telling you" with "I loves you Porgy" and "I have nothing"...at radio city was just remarkable ...
She did'nt change her style to sing these songs but brought who she was to them and in the case of "I loves you, Porgy" it was really astonishing...
Of course...today...in 2003..it make sme very sad to think what she could have given us..she would still be in her prime...
What she could have done with a jazz related/standard/Broadway related CD!!!

Well one never knows. She could possibly suprise us all. I feel the best album she did was My Love is Your Love. Maybe she will come back with a whole new style. Maybe she will get smart and get clean. Maybe she will dump that horrid husband.

I know this doesn't answer the question and I'm sorry but;
I remember seeing the Miss America Pagent once... the contestant was a pretty, talented blonde woman who sang "And I Am Telling You."
Every note was perfect, her execution was flawless, and completly vapid and bland!
She had the nerve to stand there with a beautiful warm inviting smile on her face singing the words to the song as if she had [no idea] what they were about. She tried to turn this heart-rendering number into "Tomorrow."
Yes I have this performance. It is nothing short of amazing!
Whitney performed this song in a medley with I Love You Porgy and I Have Nothing at the 1994 American Music Awards.
"I Love You Porgy/And I Am Telling You/I Have Nothing"
This is a video with good audio and video quality so the file is rather large.

Haha, BROADWAYGUY2 is brillant.
I bet if we followed her trail to the crack den we could also locate Carol Channing lighting a dubby next to LL cool J.

i heart broadwayguy2!
Of course you all know why Whitney recorded the song?
After La Houston proved to be a valid box office movie draw, she was initally attached to the "Dreamgirls' movie. She very much wanted to do it, but this was when musicals wern't cool and hip like they are now. ("Justin to Kelly" anyone?).
It stalled for so long she backed out and then Lauren Hill was approached and as of this point, nothing is happening.
It also didnt work b/c she apparently wanted to perform songs from 2 different characters. She wanted to sing both "I Am Changing" and "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going".

Wow, this is an awesome site, thanks Kuhn!
Not to promote any competition, I would love to hear her former labelmate Deborah Cox's turn on this gem. Deborah is currently in good voice and has done an admirable job along with the ensemble in rescuing 'Aida' from the state it was left in by certain other singers.
Oops! Thanks DGrant. I hate putting a wrong statement out there. The site I saw that from has it wrong then. I thought it looked funny when I saw that. Someone must email the Mr. Dreamgirls expert. Updated On: 9/2/04 at 09:20 AM
