I usually audition well (it's a rare occasion when I don't get a callback). I always know when I have and haven't, I'm very good at that.
When I haven't, it's usually been "extra" nerves for some specific reason or other. If you're comparing yourself to other people before you go in, you're already dead in the water. They want to see you at your best, and that's all they're thinking about while you're in there, so give it to them. It's your time - use it to blow them away as best you can. It's a performance.
