I have to say that the "Who Hates LA?" thread is petty, ridiculous and simply meant to rile up people and get them to post...
I am an LA resident, after living in NYC for 6+ years, and EVERY city, regardless of where it is, has its own special people, places and things that make it unique. I would never say I hate anywhere (aside from where I grew up, but that is more a "state of mind" thing than about the place itself), and to criticize where other people live, work, love, play, etc. is ignorant and petulant.
And if you were looking for someone to defend LA, here you go:
LA has one of the best regional theatres in the country including the Mark Taper Forum, the Geffen and Pasadena Playhouses. It also boasts a strong Broadway community, with series at both the Ahmanson and the Pantages (Broadway/LA).
You may recall that in the past few years, we've hosted our share of pre-Broadway runs (including the current "Curtains). It was also the US city which hosted the US premiere of "Sunset Blvd."
The Ahmanson has been truly innovative, with a mixture of both great touring shows, but also with groundbreaking new works - other than "Swan Lake", what Matthew Bourne shows have been in NYC? Oh really? Beacause Angelinos have seen them ALL.
And two hours away, in San Diego, we have the La Jolla Playhouse and the Old Globe Theatre, which premiered such works as "Tommy," "Movin' Out", oh and what was the name of that show which just won the Tony - right, "Jersey Boys."
So let's be careful about the comments we make.
