spielberg would be great, though I would also like to see him do ragtime.

other choices could be alfonso cuaron or ang lee.

I have seen Miss Saigon done without a spectacle of a helicopter and the scene was just as potent. I like it as a flashback very much. but I could see a great screenwriter playing with that.

Yes, Cooolkid because you consider me "stupid" that must be the case.

There was another thread about the idea of Miss Siagon being a likely choice for a movie over Les Miserables. People there were saying that it could be considered more of a war movie then a typical movie musical. I said Speldberg because he has a good track record with those kinds of movies. If they wanted to transport a very flashy broadway musical to screen I would say that they should use Shankman because he is good with that kind of movie.

Do we really know for a fact "Jimmy" won't do another musical? "Jimmy" was a high point for me in two recent musicals for of high points. Perhaps he could bring back the moniker "musical star."

I also don't agree that just because there have been a lot of musicals this one has to be on deck. On some level, I'm sure most successful stage musicals have options taken and whatnot, but I would be surprised to see Miss Saigon before I saw something like Wicked on screen.

I would love to see Spielberg direct this. Heck, I would just love to see what he would do with ANY big musical!

I guarantee you wouldn't say that before he did Hairspray.

Chason, I don't KNOW if I AGREE with ALL of your CHOICES, but MAYBE SOME of them.

Taymor / Stone, you cannot be serious. If George Lucas directed, Chris would become Luke & The Engineer would have to be Darth Vadar! Nick Hytner or Stephen Daldry for me.
