Who are some female characters in shows that are shy and insecure or what songs would you suggest other than "shy" from once upon a mattress lol thanks in advance...
Serena Katz from "Fame" is a very shy, insecure character. One song she sings "Let's Play A Love Scene" talks about the guy she likes and how she wants to be with him and stuff. It's a nice character song- you can reveal how shy she is although the song is a confession.
Let's not forget about Audrey from Little Shop Of Horrors, as well.

Princess Winnifred in "Once Upon a Mattress" is "shy." Even sings a song about it.
I was just going to make the same suggestion that Goth made.

"You Can Always Count On Me" from City of Angels
"Adelaide's Lament" from Guys and Dolls
"I'm Breaking Down" from Falsettos
"There Are Worse Things I Could Do" from Grease
"Doatsey Mae" from Best Little Whorehouse
"Bus from Amarillo" from Best Little Whorehouse
Though the musical wasn't a hit, the first character who comes to mind is Gertrude McFuzz from Seussical. "All For You" is her big torch number, and "Notice Me Horton" is good, too, though it's a duet...

Gloria from "Summer of '42" is very shy/insecure. And she has a lisp and likes birds with "big jowlth." Yeah, good times playing that role! She doesn't have any songs, besides little bits in trios with Aggie and Miriam, but I'd say that "Notice Me Horton" from "Seussical" would work. It's a duet but it totally works as a solo song.
