OK, I unfortunatly did not get a chance to see this controversial show and was wondering if some of you who actually saw it could comment.
I also never picked up the paul simon cd recording because I was awaiting a real cast recording but of course that never happened. So now I asking if the Paul Simon sung recording would be a good purchase to get a feel for what the show has to offer.

Posted: 11/18/03 at 10:46amIt was an idea that probably sounded great on paper. I think the creaters were envisioning another West Side Story. The songs are great. I actually own the concept album but I don't think a cast album was ever recorded. CAPEMAN, despite good music and lyrics along with creative scenic and lighting design, was just dull. The staging was pedantic and the libretto was full of heavy-handed symbolism (it's probably not a good idea for a Nobel prize-winning poet to write the book to a Broadway musical). I'd recommend the concept album though. Hopefully, Paul Simon will one day consider writing another musical.
