Who is Christian Slater?

Christian Slater's confirmed for the cast of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which I have tickets for, but I don't recognise his photo and haven't seen a single one of his films. Is he still worthy of his 'Hollywood star' status when real 'Hollywood stars' like Minnie Driver, Hank Azaria, Matthew Perry, etc, take the same title in London theatre??

He is in INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE. He is the one interviewing the vampire (brad pitt). He is an ok actor, not one of my favorites.

Wow. I haven't seen that name in a long time.

I can't speak to his recent stuff, but Slater's no slouch, if you look at things like TUCKER. More a character actor than a leading man, but with some solid skill to support it.

Interesting choice. I'd say a good one, actually.

Oh and also, he's supposed to be doing The Pillowman on Broadway, and One Flew Over.. in London.

Yes, and his appearance in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest will really prevent Slater from always being compared to Jack Nicholson.

I've seen a few really good Christian Slater performances in the past... Heathers and Very Bad Things come to mind. He seems to do really well with black comedy.

He was often compared to a young Jack Nicholson when he shot to fame in the late 80s but has since fallen into Hollywood obscurity.

Back in 1998, Slater starred in the marvelous Broadway show SIDE MAN which won a number of Tonys that year, including a best featured actor award for the teriffic Frank Wood.

He was also Oliver in the pre-Broadway tour of the reivial of OLIVER with Patti Lupone and Ron Moody. By the time it reached Broadway, his voice had changed, so he had to be replaced. The revival was a flop.

He was on The West Wing for a few episodes 2 years ago as the Naval officer who was dating Donna.

And yes, in his early starring roles in the movies "Heathers" and "Pump Up the Volume", he was sort of a teenaged Jack Nicholson.

One reason his film career hasn't been hot lately is that he had some legal problems involving substance abuse, a la Robert Downey Jr. Updated On: 7/7/04 at 05:56 PM

Don't forget "Pump Up The Volume" ("Talk hard!") and "Untamed Heart"!

Plus those classics "The Legend of Billie Jean" and "Gleaming the Cube."

P.S. He isn't "Supergirl" Helen Slater's brother. They were in "Billie Jean" together, but they're not related. Neither one of them was born with the name Slater.

Darn it, Kate, you are right. Someone told me years ago when they did that film together they were brother and sister so I had assumed that forever. Oh, well, she is still hot! And he ain't too bad either.
