Well I wanted to avoid an uproar.
Man... now you have me wondering Rathnait! People on here love to torture me with information they know but don't tell! But I understand why, no mudslinging... sad for us not there though...
Yeah sorry...was trying to make a point, not be a tease!
I too would like to avoid that uproar, I just think it stinks that we have to even do that.
It scares me to think that Tonya Pinkins could be considered one of the best. She IS talented. If she had to only sing once a week she'd be fine. I admire that she seems to play her roles like a TOUR DE FORCE every night but she has very little technique and she never paces herself and therefore sounds like hell all the time.
PS
Donna Murphy is incredible. PASSION was one of the most remarkable things ever...not only because God aka Marin Mazzie was in it but Donna Murphy is just rediculously gifted as Fosca.
BUT Come on now....Could she be absent ANY MORE from Wonderful Town...which brings me to this:
LINDA MUGLESTON!
AMAZING
She is Ms Murphy's Understudy. The woman is impecable!
She was Marin's understudy in KISS ME KATE. She saves Donna Murphy's ass frequently, she's made a career out of it it seems. She was the German in NINE I believe. She has a solo CD as far as I know but hopefully one day she will start off as the lead and not saving the lead.
I saw Linda in Into the Woods as The Witch, as well as in for Donna in WT, the woman does give a decent performance.
Marin Mazzie is unbeatable!
The KISS ME, KATE (revival) CD is one of the only Cast Recordings that is non-Sondheim that I listen to religiously.
Well she was just PERFECT in that show...just like psychoticly perfect. Ok and not that Heather Headley wasn't rediculously good...but I wanted to kill someone when Marin didn't win the Tony that year...I was like "Who do ya hafta &^&*^" lol jk...well not really kidding but you know :)If her and Jason Danieley don't come back to NYC soon I may have a panic attack
Marin was also excellent in LaMancha, I loved her performance.
As for KMK, a show I didn't like all that much, I thought Carolee Carmello was just as good as Marin.
Carolee was GREAT! LOVEEEE HER...can you believe she's had NO training???? DIVA!
Marin in LaMancha....I can't even describe it well enough to do it justice. She was just beautiful and worked so hard..when she sang Aldonza I was just sitting with my mouth open...almost screamed when they were raping her. BUT I hafta say and tell me if you thought so....some of the fight choreography SUCKED. It was messy. But I loved it none the less.

Brodybaby - I know you want Marin back in NYC - but we're going to enjoy her in Reprise's BRIGADOON first. I'm enjoying that some of these fabulous performers get to be seen out here on the left coast.
Oh the choreographed fighting in that show was awful but the talent on the stage just outshone all the flaws.

Pinkins has been singing that role almost non-stop for a long time now, much longer than the show's been on Broadway. I think Margo knows the specifics of it, but when the show started out her voice was fine. It isn't about pacing, it's about the fact that she's been singing a strenuous role with almost no days off for ages.
DGRANT
Just send her back unharmed!
It's all I ask

Brodybaby - let's negotiate a trade - we'll send Marin back, and since he'll be done in September, we'll take Jarrod for awhile.
Oh I'm gonna cry with all this love for Marin running around here! I want her to go back to NYC so I can see her in something when I go in February, but fisrt she has to come back to good ole Michigan again but do a concert on the east side of the state. Oh my!
This is kind of random, but we said Carolee before about how she took over for Marin in KMK, I think (and tell me if I'm wrong) but I think she'd be great in Wonderful Town as a replacement for Donna.
As much as I love Wonderful Town, I doubt that we will ever see a replacement for Donna Murphy(unless of course you count the amazing Linda Muggleston). I don't see it running much longer, I've seen it three times this past month and a fourth time this coming weekend and the theatre seems empty. I think it is at 50% capacity. Well now I'm sad.
I don't think we'll see it last that long either, I just think she would be a good one.
