Anne Hathaway would be great as Gypsy!
BROADWAYLADY!!!!!!!!
I love the idea of Lilias White playing Mama Rose. I realize that the chances of the show going on after Bernadette leaves are slim to none, but it's fun to imagine. Lilias White. Man, that would be cool

Anne Hathaway is supposed to be doing a play in London I think? Perhaps she'll make her move to the Broadway stage soon though. :)

Valerie Bertinelli :)
Dollypop, are you for real? I love Loretta and all...but are you for real? Maybe the strippers can be Joyce Dewitt, Erin Moran and Isabel Sanford. With Herbie being played by Barry Williams.
LOL Maybe Joyce Dewitt can play Gypsy Rose Lee, and Susan Sommers can play Dainty June. haha Now I would definitely pay to see that!

Forget Loretta Swit. My vote now goes to the illustrious Wing!!!!!

Bette Midler is about to embark on a long tour ( got my tickets for Feb, 22). So I don't think she would want to go anywhere near Gypsy. But I do hope they replace Bernadette with someone good. When I saw her in it she was horrendous. Like a zombie just hitting her marks and walking through it. One of the worst performances I have ever seen.
Betty Buckley. I think she would be the perfect Mama Rose.

Catherine Zeta-Jones...
She would OWN this Town...
Catherine Zeta-Jones??? As Mama Rose???? I think her performance in Chicago was great, but I don't think she's right for Mama Rose. It would be like Carol Channing as Eliza Dolittle in My Fair Lady. Great actress, great show, just not meant to be together.
Now Catherine as Eliza, on the other hand.....

Patii LuPone was born to play the role.

actually as some of you may know...Catherine Zeta-Jones said to a spoke person one time that her dream role is Mama Rose in Gypsy...so...it may not be THAT farfetched...Honestly I don't think she could pull it off! Sure, tons of people would go and see her, but the show would soon die! I think Bette is there best choice...and I KNOW THEY HAVE CONSIDERED HER!!!!!
CALLING BETTY BUCKLEY...YOOOHOOOO
I think Catherine Zeta-Jones was speaking about wanting to play Rose at some time in the distant future. She made that comment right before this production of Gypsy opened and she said maybe "the next time they produce it on Broadway" which if it is like all the other revivals it will be in another 14 years when she will be in her mid to late 40s. She may have grown into the role by then.
And since Sondheim and Laurents disliked Betty Buckley's Rose so much at Papermill, I'd be very surprised if they gave her another shot on Broadway.
I'd have to say, in my opinion that is, that Bette Midler and Megan Mullaly are the only names I've heard that have the voice, the acting ability, the right look and the box office draw necessary. And it seems they both have a lot of other commitments.

Bette's already done it. Would people pay $85 to see her when they can pop in the video?
After seeing Bernadette, I popped Bette's "Gypsy" into the VCR and as much as I originally loved Bette's performance, Bernadette kinda kicked arse. Maybe it was the live over Memorex, dunno *shrug*

Actually, bernadette88...I wouldn't be so sure that your "sorces" were so correct. Rumors spread like wildfire....
