Posted: 1/28/06 at 5:45pmTechnically as in how good it was (Score, choreography, lighting, direction etc.) I would give it a 6.5 but keep in mind I don't know much about the technical aspects... But in terms of how enjoyable it was it was probably a 9! I loved it!

Watching the movie right now and realizing I would probaby need to take a box of Kleenex to the theatre for this.
Can't wait to see it.

I give it an 8.5!
Too Beautiful for Words, Push Da Button, What About Love, and Color Purple are such wonderful songs....so memorable. Acting was very good and singing was perfection.

Has anyone seen it recently?
My friend Donald told me that it has grown immensely since previews.

It's changed quite a bit since previews.
An extra scene, a whole scene redone.
Acting is better.

Posted: 2/6/06 at 11:19pmI'll give it an 8.5. musicaltheater1, I agree that all of Shug's songs are gorgeous. I saw the 4th preview and then I saw it again about 2 weeks ago and I didn't notice any specific changes in the book/score/direction or quality of the performances.

7.5 - 8
I saw it rush - first row seats - actors almost in my lap. which gave me a perfect view of the weird body suit in the tub scene. I loved the acting (tears in my eyes during curtain call), songs are fun & performed perfectly. My only problem was some of the dialogue and some of the book - just didn't flow right for me. but those dancer's bodies sure made up for it.

About an 8.
It's a really grounded production. I was really, really moved and uplifted many times throughout the show. It is a universal piece of music theater that transcends time and really highlights the plight of a culture that even today is still misunderstood to many.
I absolutely loved it and it is DEFINITELY worth seeing.
