I love live theater as much as all of you. The thrill of seeing performers live, even if on TV, is wonderful and knowing that every performance is a little bit different.
That said, I would much rather see a filmed or taped near perfect stage production. I didn't watch RENT Live, I'm one of the few people who don't really care for the show. And after reading the East Coast reviews here I was fine with skipping it.
Do these live shows cost as much (or more or less) than a filmed version? Also producers might be able to attract higher quality performers who can't commit to the long rehearsal lead-time for live TV productions.
