Why can't I find Caroline, or Change's grosses on BWW?

I'm having the worst time trying to find the grosses for the show. I find the show brillant, after listening to the recording a couple times. I just wanted to see how bad the grosses were, since the show only had a short run. But I can't find them under the right year or months.

I tried the same thing, to no avail. I too would like to know why that is. Do producers have to make their records public like that?

Bobby, why must you be an ass? I went to the grosses page, looked under the time that ibdb.com says that Caroline, or Change was opened and it didn't have it listed as being opened.

For whatever reason, BWW grosses don't include Caroline (there are several shows that aren't in their archives). Check them out over at Playbill.com:

Thanks Margo. I loved the score for this show and I just wanted to see how damaging the grosses were. I can understand why people wouldn't be drawn to it.

It basically hovered slightly above its break even point for most of its run with attendance figures in upper 60s and low 70s, which wasn't bad for a show of its type. It was also hurt by a truly terrible marketing campaign which featured a painting of a very depressed and angry-looking Tonya Pinkins in a maid uniform smoking a cigarette. It was as if they were trying to sabotage their own show (lord knows how many thousands of potential customers were turned off by that marquee and the ads based on it). Somebody finally figured out their error and created a new campaign with a smiling and triumphant-looking Pinkins with the moon on her shoulder that was a 100 times more appealing, but by then it was too late and the show closed just a few weeks later.

Yeah, I agree. I saw the poster for the show and I lost all interest. I just thought, "this isn't for me..." But after hearing about how amazing the score was, I thought I'd give it a listen and I was captivated. I guess it goes to show how good marketing can make or break a show. Although, in retrospect, I liked the poster because it made sense with the show, but I think they could have played up the talking radio and singing moon, etc. stuff more.
