Where did all these shows of his come from? The Nutcracker? Romance Language? Lovers and Friends? The Petrified Prince? Henry and Ellen?
Are these new shows? Old shows? Abandoned shows?

Posted: 1/6/07 at 8:12pmI'm not as familiar with him as I should be, but my college is likely doing a production of Hello, Again next year (the first musical the theatre department has ever done) and, after listening to it and reading the libretto, I'm really excited about it.

He's amazing prolific--it's too bad only 6 shows of his have been recorded. Highest Yellow, Little Fish, Petrified Prince and Lovers and Friends (and maybe Nutccracker which he did in Japan for Miyamoto) especially deserve recordings IMHO
It seems his shows work better on CD than on stage from all the reviews I've read there always seem to be some story structure problems. But as a composer he's right behind Sondheim on my list of faves

If you haven't seen the shows you can't really make that judgement. I wouldn't go by reviews. I find that most of his scores worked for me. I didn't see all of the past ones but they worked well.
As far as the recordings, there are those that can be found of the illegal nature. Personally I don't think it's such a big deal. I'd go to the shows and I'd buy the recordings if I could. But it is nice to hear some new LaChiusa. I want to hear Lovers and Friends. Bjivie, Most of those shows are past shows. I've never heard of Henry and Ellen or Romance Language so I couldn't say.
