Posted: 6/1/11 at 10:10pmI'm just curious why so many shows are now releasing a book containing book & lyrics for the shows (i.e. Memphis, Last 5 Years and soon, 13 and Book of Mormon). I thought part of the reason why musical scripts were so hard to get was because the license agents wanted to protect copywright. It just seems like all of a sudden authors are unafraid to release them and I'm curious why that might be...

It's a cheap way to make extra money. And it's exposure to the work.
Illegal productions happen regardless of their selling the libretto or not.
