THE COURT JESTER--surely one of the funniest and most swashbuckling movies of all time! It would need a few more songs to pad out the marvellous Sylvia Fine originals, but the settings are fairly simple (there are probably fewer locations than, say, CAMELOT) and the adaptation wouldn't have to change much. Of course, it's hard to find a Danny Kaye equal these days. If anyone else thinks this is a good idea, how would you cast it today? (Douglas Sills?)

And how about Sutton Foster in the Angela Lansbury "princess" part and Andrea Martin as the witch? (I can't think of anyone to play the boring Glynis Johns part, though--or who would want to.)

i absolutely love this movie and could easily see it on stage. I actually just recently lent my copy of this movie to a friend of mine who wants to expand his knowledge of musicals.

So who would you cast in the leads today?

I love this movie, It's one of those pieces I would love to write an adaptation for, however unlikely of it happening.

I did a thread on that not too long ago:

I thought of these people:
Roger Bart, Nathan Lane, Douglas Sills: Hubert Hawkins
Sutton Foster, Mara Davi, Susan Egan: Princess

I was thinking of Roger Bart as the Jester mainly cause people compared him to Danny Kaye (when Young Frankenstein started) since they are both awesome at doing tongue twisters.

I would love a stage version of Court Jester. Favorite Danny Kaye movie.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel.
