Having all of people's concerns about Tony noms bundled into one enormous thread makes it extremely difficult to generate or follow a coherent discussion about any one show that failed to get one. If I want to understand why If/Then didn't get nominated why do I have to read dozens of posts about Bullets, Rocky and First Date? It makes everyone's concerns seem like they're being tossed into a one big dumpster labelled "Rants." I actually think it might be better to post discussions in separate threads show-by-show.

But how can you discuss one person's "snub" in one show without discussing the performances in all the other shows by those who beat him out? I think you're missing the basic point. You can't nominate any person for his work without comparing him (or her) to all the others in the same category. So why rant about a snub, without doing the same?

Then rant about a category.

Because people don't want to read 86 different threads on essentially the same topic?

Well, I for one don't want to have to read 318 unrelated posts (and counting). If people want to raise a relevant comparison to another show in a focused, coherent discussion, they certainly can. Forcing all the discussions into one thread guarantees that most points will be irrelevant to the others. It makes one's brain hurt to have to wade thought it all. Who decided no one else could start focused threads?

Then don't read the unrelated posts. Just read the ones you find relevant, or start your own thread. Starting a thread just to ask why you can't create your own thread on a certain "snub" is pointless and kind of counterproductive, isn't it? If you want to have your own thread then create it.

It is seemingly not the first year one thread has been used.

You can do whatever you want (and many people will not participate or reply with a link to the other thread), as the odds are that your point was already covered there, or in the tony nomination predictions thread, or the show's reviews thread, or the show's previews thread.

If you were here yesterday as the nominations were being announced, it wouldn't seem like a mess, but an interesting way to capture everyone's thoughts as they found out the news.

"Then don't read the unrelated posts."

And how will I know what's unrelated before I read it?

There could be a specific thread for folks who are interested in that.

Obviously you're bursting with this gem of a thread, just post it already.

I do think a category would be more prudent than a show, though, since it is hard to discuss one show in a vacuum when it comes to nominations. Updated On: 4/30/14 at 09:14 AM

I'm not bursting with anything. I'm interested in other people's opinions and trying to participate in a civil discussion about how to best organize them into something other than a big mess. Someone else previously posted their opinion about that, so I posted mine.

Newspapers are organized into articles, encyclopedias are organized into chapters, and message boards are organized into threads. I think it would be useful for people interested in specific show not to have to wade through a morass about all shows.

If this if your attempt at discussing If/Then, which my avatar should indicate I'm not opposed to, couching that in a dialogue about how the message board should potentially operate more efficiently will, as you can see, get you a discussion about board politics and not If/Then, heh.

I agree with you. I just arrived today, and unfortunately for me I haven't the post about ranting and I created my own one. And some people yelled at me and were a little aggressive. I just wanted to share my passion with musicals fans and I think they don't want to open their group.

"If this if your attempt at discussing If/Then…"

It's not.
