Why same performance times on Broadway?

Why same performance times on Broadway?

Don't you think that shows on Broadway could Benefit by having irregular show days? London seems to have that going for them.

For example: If a show decided to do a monday night performance and maybe skip out on one of the wednesdays, wouldn't they make more money because they are the only thing up?

Are there set rules for when a production can or cannot play on the great white way?

Thank You!!!

Most shows have 8 performances a week. You'll see that some shows will vary their schedules to fit this... If a show decides to have 2PM and 7PM shows on a Sunday, they go dark Monday and Tuesday before resuming on Wednesday and play all other performances during the week...

Ok, I have seen a bunch of shows do the sunday night thing.

But why is that the only one?

Why not a tuesday matinee? or something like that...

The Drowsy Chaperone did Monday nights during previews, they even opened on a Monday, but then switched to the traditional schedule thereafter.
Seems like a good idea for previews since people involved in other shows, including family and frends of cast members can get to see the show.

There have been many times that I have seen a matinee of one show and the evening performance of another. It seems that if you plan ahead, you can makle it happen re: Why same performance times on Broadway?

Most companies, offices, stores ect. are open 9-5- in comepetition with each other so to speak.

Broadway is about tradition and performance schedules reflect that. Even some shows have Tuesday at & performances in honor of the play TUESDAYS WITH MOREY (sp?)
