Posted: 11/21/04 at 4:23pmI hope so! I really want to see it! I heard on the radio though that Wicked wasn't doing so good and it might have to close come the end of summer time, true or not? I mean I though they were doing great, all the tickets are sold out!

SallyBrown, whoever said that is smoking something...the show is grossing over a million a week, it was recently reported that they would recoup their initial investment very soon, and the show is sold out for months now, and continues to be as soon as tickets become available.
Unless 100% capacity translates to "not doing well," they might have even been joking. Check out their weekly grosses: http://www.playbill.com/features/section/7.html

Remember when someone started a thread a few months ago asking "What's happening to Wicked? It's only at 100% capacity now! Is it going to close soon?"
*shakes head*
Edit: I've been PMed by someone who says she (he?) started said thread and that s/he didn't say it was going to close soon, but there were at least two threads on this subject when it first dropped in numbers, so I don't remember if it was the thread starter or another commentator who speculated on it closing. In other words, just don't go after Corfriends.

Posted: 11/21/04 at 5:42pmIt shouldn't be that hard to get tickets after the first of the year. I know of a group that recently purchased 35 Wicked tickets in Orchestra-Center for a Friday night in early March.

When I was there last weekend trying to win cancellation line this is what the guy was saying as people got in line to try to buy tickets. The show is sold out completely until January 4th. After that it is possible to get weekday tickets. For Weekends it is sold out until January 24th, but it depends on which day... for Fridays I believe he said they were sold out until February 24th. That could have been for Saturdays.. I'm not positive.
Hope that helps.
BTW... I love Wicked. Seen it more times than I should admit.

Posted: 11/21/04 at 6:26pmFYI, when they say they're sold out, they're not. WICKED seems to reserve most of it's house seats for day-of release.

Out of curiosity, what happens to access to those house seats once they are released? Do they go to the cancellation line, brokers, VIP conciereges, ticketmaster? Anyone know?
eta: this is purely b/c I'm curious, I would neverever pay broker or VIP prices, or anything over full price for that matter.

House seats tend to go to the cancelation line if they are not needed (on the day). Ticketmaster (if they are not the official agency for a theatre) and some agencies tend to have allocations they're selling (certain rows in the orchestra etc). If they don't manage to sell their allocation they tend to be released for the box office as well.
Brokers tend to but tickets in advance, like the average theatre goer, and re-sell them at ridiculous prices.

As I added before, I wouldn't pay broker prices myself, but that's a personal choice.
My roommate really wanted to take her family while they were in town and bought broker seats online and didn't regret it. HOWEVER--they were the LAST row of the REAR MEZZ for $140 a ticket. If you're dying to see a show on a particular date and have the cash and don't care about the seat then....go for it. But at over double the price for those seats, I would never do it.

Posted: 11/21/04 at 7:23pmI don't understand why ANYONE would buy from a broker. It just encourages them to make it harder for people to get decent tickets.

I agree! I would NEVER buy from a broker unless I'm really desperate. In my job I have to work with them from time to time, unfortunately and it's just such a rip-off.
