I just got back from my very first trip to New York. While I was there, I was lucky enough to see Shoshana Bean's very last performance as Elphaba. She completely blew me away...I've never been more impressed with a performance in my life.

Now, like I said, this was my first trip to NY, so, it was also my very first Broadway experience. I have, however, seen several shows in Chicago, so I do have a little theater experience.

I've read several articles saying that Shoshana's character does not reach the level of emotion or the vocal power of the original Elphaba...I have the soundtrack and completely disagree. I can't imagine seeing the show without Shoshana starring. Her facial expressions and gestures just reveal so much character...I loved watching her. Her renditions of "Defying Gravity" and "No Good Deed" had so much power in them, and "I'm Not That Girl" moved me to tears - something which the originals never did.

Such an amazing show, with an amazing cast...a wonderful introduction to the world of Broadway theater.

Glad to hear you had a good time!!! I haven't seen Wicked in NY... only twice in Chicago. But I too know of what an experience it is the first time you see a Broadway show. Mine was RENT and I will never forget it, also on my frist trip to NY. The same thing happened to me with Mel B as Mimi... many said she wasn't very good but I liked her. Just remember the first experience seems to always be glorified. :)

Anyway glad you enjoyed NY. Welcome to the board!

I'm glad you enjoyed it Katie. Just be careful about posting Wicked stuff- some people here are not so nice about these kind of threads. It's not that they don't like Wicked- it's just gotten a bit out of hand though.

Just be careful and welcome to BWW.
