Just thought that this was funny. I was browsing Ebay yesterday looking for gifts that my lovely friends and family could get me for Christmas when I came across an item labeled "Wicked VHS." Turns out that it was a bootleg shot from the balcony. I sent the seller a message asking, but knowing the answer already, "Isn't this a bootleg, and, thus, illegal?" He didn't respond, but the item wasn't there today. I guess he figured that the $100 he was asking wasn't worth federal prosecution! :)

I doubt he realized that. It's more likely that someone informed eBay and they pulled the auction.

That's a fascinating subject.

Obviously, one of the authors of CARRIE got wind to the fact that people were selling CARRIE bootlegs on EBAY, you never see them anymore. You do see the occasional odd bootleg: A live recording of CAMELOT turns up every now and then, the Reba McIntyre version of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN can often be found, and there's a RENT workshop recording.

The lesson is this: If it's a bootleg and you're interested, use the "Buy it Now" function.

good to see eBay actually catches these people once in awhile. bootlegs should be for the enlightenment and entertainment of those who are interested, not for the purpose of lining the pockets of some unscrupulous person. granted a collection has to start somewhere, but given the almost negligible cost of producing and mailing such items, and the fact that they can fetch such high prices on eBay, it's just not right.

something else eBay needs to shut down is these a-holes selling discount codes as if they were coupons. the same codes that can be attained for free thru Playbill or Theatermania are constantly being marketed on eBay as discount coupons and usually sell for $1 to $6 to unknowing buyers. please be informed and inform others not to give money to these crooks. just get a free Playbill membership and you'll have the same codes.

it was most likely automatically taken off by the VeRO program that checks the listings for items voilating copyrights of various companies that register with ebay to have all auctions containing their products, etc. to be cancelled. that happened when i tried to buy a MTI libretto. re: Wicked Bootleg on Ebay...not anymore

Rod's Dilemma CD is actually considered a bootleg on eBay because it was never made to be put up for sale
Just another fun one to keep your eyes open for re: Wicked Bootleg on Ebay...not anymore
