I'd prefer the tour cast... but hey I'll take what I can get.
I can't recall any time a tour was recorded for commercial distribution. In fact, the only times I can remember an additional cast album was released while the original production was still playing was when Pearl Bailey took over 'Hello, Dolly' in 1967, when Larry Kert took over 'Company' in 1970, and when Brooke Shields stepped into 'Wonderful Town' last year. You'd need a big star to convince a recording company to invest the money. RCA wasn't even interested in recording 'Dolly' when Merman stepped into the role in 1970 even though there were two new songs added. Poor Ethel had to record 'her' songs on a 45 which was then sold in the lobby of the St. James Theatre
hush puppy, you forgot the brooke shields version of grease but i see your point... however with the enormous popularity of this particular show in the teen girls set i think that a second, and hell even third recording would still sell well.
I'd buy it if it came out, but I don't expect it to happen at all.

hushpuppy, the godspell tour cast released its own album in 2001, too. and i think enough people have been raving about ana and the rest of the cast that the chicago cast recording would sell well.
Good idea and I would buy it but I don't think it's going to happen, hope it does though!
