Well, I finally saw it last night after it was cancelled on us Tuesday night! It's a great tour. It's going to do well. Scaled down a little which is OK. It works. They don't have the two staircases on either side to work with. Instead when they need to do dialogue on them they would bring out levels on either side of the stage, it worked. It was interesting to see how they would do some changes and really none of it bothered me. Ill just give my thoughts on performances.
Kendra- She was delightful. She didn't make a good impression with her voice. But as the night went along it really grew on me. Not as trained classically as Kristin and even JLT. She was very funny and as time goes on she will get even more funny and win audiences over.
Kristy- Unfortunately Stephanie was still out, but let me tell you Elphaba is in GOOD hands. She was fantastic! Like people have said a very well trained voice and really made the part her own. I could see her playing the role someday soon (rather then be understudy).
Witch's father- Didn't care for him at all. His voice was weak and played the same character throughout the show. I hate comparing but what I liked about Sean McCourt in this part is that he made every character different and the first time I didn't realize who played each of the characters he did. I always thought it was someone different.
David Garrison- He was 'wonderful' as the Wizard. (pun intended) Great voice and really will have this part down as it grows on him.
Carol Kane- Awful. She really does not have this part down at all. She is not stern enough. she does not have enough authority and shes all over the place. Very amateurish. She doesn't sing which is fine if her acting was any good. Very disappointed.
Derrick Williams- Mmmmmmm. So hot. I was very impressed with him. I went in hearing that he was too flamboyant. I didn't see any flamboyancy at all. He had a fierce voice and he did really well.
Jenna- Shes amazing. You can really tell that she puts in 100% into her work. She is perfection in this role.
Logan- He was great. Really did well.
Tim Parker- He was great. Good too see a Musical theatre Veteran up there. He did well also.
Hmmm. I don't know what else to add. Feel free to ask questions or send an e-mail ill be glad to answer them.
Wishing Stephanie well. Elphaba is in good hands as she recovers. Wish they would have sold me a ticket though when I wanted to buy one at the box office yesterday before the show so I could see Stephanie. Oh well.
