Mind you, I'm always threatening to set fire to the guy I'm half in love with, so I'm not sure I view that as a total plot hole...

It was all part of the "plan"! That's why in Wicked, you see her purposely place a bucket of water somewhere.

You can't connect the Wizard of Oz movie to Wicked. There are two many things that don’t work.

Just enjoy them as two different adoptions of Baum’s books.

And that’s why I rarely correct grammar in non-academic settings. Everyone makes honest mistakes. Just because I screwed up doesn’t mean I don’t know the difference.
