I won the lotto, the first time I won a lotto. It was great. Tonight was the opening night here in Orange County, CA. I only really wanted to see this for Julia, and boy was I happy I got the chance.
At the OCPAC the stage is so close to the front row that the actors were kind of spooked by how close we were. Also the house is HUGE and this was the first time since the phantom tour has been there that I have seen the whole house filled. It was crazy.
I am not going to go into depth because it is what it is.
Kendra was great, her comedic timing was excellent and it her voice has improved a lot from when I saw the show in San Fran. I just didn't like the fact that she didn't finish all her words with ending consonants.
Julia made me actually care about this character. Her acting was spot on and it was extremely effective. Her voice was great; I loved her renditions of these songs. She is so sweet at the stage door.
The rest of the cast was great; Alma Cuervo made a great Morrible. PJ Benjamin was great for that small role of the Wizard and it was great to a Fiyero who hit the higher notes.
There was this little girl sitting behind me who was so involved and asked during defying gravity, what did she do, she didn’t do anything wrong. It was great to see younger people getting involved in theatre.
All-in-all I had a great time at the theatre tonight.
Thank you for the review
Julia is a GREAT Elphie. Kendra rocks. Alma and PJ are terrific. Glad you had enjoyed the show! That's awesome you won the lottery.
Hey can you tell me how Logan Lipton was? I loved his portrayal as Boq the last time.
i am so jealous that you won the lottery. I tried when i was in new york. I'm glad that it was good.
Man i wish the tour would come up to canada, well, western canada at least...........stupid toronto
I am pretty sure that Logan has left to tour to, I think, move to Broadway (I could be wrong about that, I believe I read it on the boards). The tour cast is just excellent. They bond so much better than the current Broadway cast.
Thats good. I don't care for the new Broadway Cast. However, I adore Kendra and Julia. Logan is fantastic wherever he is and I am very excited to see him (if he is) moving ot Broadway. I am gonig to go check the website to see if he is now on Broadway.
Thanks for informing me!
Im glad that Logan is now on Broadway. He deserves it! I am sooo very glad that I wil be able ot se hi mon Broadway when I go. I'm very excite dthat I'll be able to see his progress! Thanks for clarifying it for sure.

Thanks for clarifying missyrose87! I am a very big Logan fan, and by clarifying that up, I cna prepare to have a terrible Boq (sadness. Boq is my favorite). But I am a HUGE Logan fan and tellnig me that he is now on Broadway has made my day! THANKS!
According to Jen Waldman, the "new" Boq being alluded to (Kirk McDonald) will be leaving the tour on September 3rd, along with Julia and Kendra. Sebastian leaves a few weeks later, and is rumored to be going to the Broadway company.
Do you know why Kirk will be leaving? And so you know if Sebastian will be replacing Derrek?
John....how many people were entered in the lotto, how many seats did they give away, and where were they located?
There were probably about 60 there last night. They gave away 20 buttons so 20 seats. I was sitting front row on the right side of the audience. Most of the front row was Lotto winners. It was great but very close to the stage, I mean you are basically looking up there noses
Was it good to be so close for "No One Mourns"??? I think it would be really cool to be close when they reach out to the audience.
It was great being able to see all the little things you don't see from farther back
What kinda of things did you see that you normally cant?
The little things the you that she did with her facial expressions and her hands. Stuff like that. It was also great to hear what Elphaba and Glinda were saying before they meet the wizard. It was fun being that close.
I always like being close becuase you cna see that costume design. How was it to see the costumes up close?

Question about the tour:
Is "Defying Gravity" always sung in a lower key? I was listening to an audio clip on an unmentionable site that included snippets of various actresses that have played Elphaba, but whenever clips of Maria Eberline were played, she was singing in a lower key than all of the others. Is this done for certain actresses or has the song been lowered for the tour? I saw the tour back in December (with Jenna Leigh Green) and it was definitely in the original key then.
Just wondering!

I've never heard a lowered Defying Gravity, Maria's included. I listened to the snippets on the unmentionable site and it's the same key... from the audio I could see how it sounds lower, but if you listen to Maria's full DG audios, they're all in the original key as well. :)

I will have to link you to the video in question. Her segments are clearly and undeniably in a lower key.
